Peter Hennes, son of Mathias, was born on March 1, 1811 at Ernzen, Germany. He was baptized in Saint Mark's Catholic Church at Ernzen on March 2, 1811. Peter died on March 6, 1903 at Lemont, Illinois. He was buried on March 9, 1903 in St. Alphonsus Cemetery at Lemont, Illinois.
One researcher tells us that the family packed their possessions and left for American on February 7, 1856. Peter stated that he had information that he would provided better for his family in the American states. The family arrived in New York City on April 22, 1856 aboard the Ship Trumbull, which had sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on March 4, 1856. According to the ship's manifest the family was living in Belgium. Chicago, Illinois was given as the final destination of the family.
From various baptismal registration we learn that, while living in Germany, Peter was a daylaborer (operarius) and a joist cutter (serratori asserium). The records of the Ship Trumbull indicate that Peter gave farming as his profession. We know that after coming to America, he was a farmer by profession. In 1880, Peter's real estate was valued at $400 and his personnal estate was valued at $125. The 1880 United States census reported that Peter and Marie Hennes were living with their daughter Margaret Freehauf.
Peter married on October 15, 1836 at Silberberg, Germany to Marie Hostert, daughter of Johannes Hostert and Maria Rossler. Marie was born on October 16, 1813 Nusbaum, Germany. She was baptized in the Catholic Church at Silberberg, Germany on the same day that she was born. She died on August 4, 1888 at Lemont, Illinois. Marie was buried on August 6, 1888 in St. Alphonsus Cemetery at Lemont, Illinois.
Peter and Marie were Roman Catholic by faith. They attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Lemont, Illinois.
Peter and Marie had eight children.
