Catherine Hennes, daughter of Peter, was born at two o'clock in the morning of December 22, 1843 at Silberberg, Germany. She was baptized the same day in the Catholic Church at Silberberg. Her godparents were Jacob Hostert, son of Joannes Hostert and Marie Rossler, and Catherine Classen, daughter of Thomas Classen and Magdelena Hennes. Catherine died on May 20, 1934 at Lemont, Illinois following a fall in which she broke her hip.
Catherine married on October 16, 1862 to John Friehauf, son of John Friehauf, who was living with John and Catherine in 1880. John is the brother of Charles, husband of Anna Margaretha Hennes. John was born on December 25, 1832 in Germany. He died on August 27, 1918 at Lemont, Illinois. John was a farmer by profession. The baptismal registration for their son, Charles, indicated that John was from Trier, Germany. A transcription of the headstones in St. Alphonsus cemetery gave December 24, 1872 as John's date of birth and August 27, 1917 as his date of death. The 1832 date appears to be most incorrect.
Catherine and John had nine children, all of whom were born in Illinois.
About the year 1882, Mary married John Elenz. This year is based upon the fact that in the 1900 United States census return, it is reported that Mary and John had been married for eighteen years. John was born in March of 1861 in the State of Illinois. He was a barber by profession.
The 1900 United States census return reported that Mary and John had nine children. The 1910 United States census return reported that Mary and John had eleven children. However, only nine of them survived to be enumerated in the various census returns. They were Max, John, Lizzie, Lucy, Katie, Susie, Jacob, Marie and Frank.
Elizabeth married on October 7, 1890 at Lemont, Illinois to Henry Klein. The 1910 United States census return reported that Henry was born in November of 1865. According to his headstone, Henry died in 1931. In 1900, Henry was working as a quarry man. In 1910, Henry was working as a quarry man. In 1910 and 1920 he was a machinist at the stone quarry. By 1930 Henry was retired and his estate was valued at $1,000.
According to the various United States census returns, Elizabeth and Henry had seven children: Mary, John, Susan, Paul, Lena (Helen), Carl and Lucille. I
Charles married Ida Family name unknown]. Based on the number of years they were married in 1900, Charles and Ida married some time in 1894. Ida was born in September of 1874. She appears to have died on July 27, 1963 at Chicago.
Charles and Ida had at least one child, Lucy.
About 1894, Peter married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Sampson. This year is based on the length of time, fourteen years, the 1910 United States census reported that Peter had been married. Lizzie was born in January of 1874. She died on August 8, 1942 in Joliet, Illinois. She is buried in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Lemont, Illinois.
According to the various United States census returns, Peter and Lizzie had nine children: Michael, Henry, William, Jacob, Marie, Edward, Alphonse, Walter, and Dorothy.
Jacob married Anne Merteris on October 14, 1903 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Lemont, Illinois. Witnesses to their marriage were Henry Friehauf and Lena Marse.
According to the various United State census returns, Jacob and Anne had three children: Clarence, Martin and Rita.
According to his World War I draft registration card, which was dated September 17, 1918, Jacob’s middle name was Carl. His date of birth is confirm as that given above. He was employed as a pipe man for the Penn railroad. Jacob was of medium and slender build. He had brown eyes and black hair.
Catherine married on November 6, 1907 to John Hans Konicek, son of Frank Konicek and Mary Bach. They were granted a dispensation from the required three announcements of banns. Witnesses to their marriage were Frank Konicek and Lucy Elenz. John was a farmer by profession. According to the 1900 United States census return, John was born in April of 1884 in the State of Illinois. In 1900, John was employed as a farmer laborer. In 1910, he was a farmer and in 1920 his occupation is given as a dairy farmer. A transcription of the headstones of St. Alphonsus Cemetery at Lemont indicates that John’s life span was from 1884 to 1954.
According to John’s World War I date registration card, which was dated September 12, 1918, John was born in April 25, 1884 in the State of Illinois, was living in Lockport, and was thirty-four years of age. His middle name is given as Hans. John was described as being of medium height and build. He had blue eyes and dark brown hair.
According to the 1910 and 1920 United States census returns, Catherine and John had five children: John F, Loretta L, Gordon, Earl P. and Woodrow J.
Henry married Emma Gook, daughter of Gus Gook.
Henry and Emma, according to the 1920 and 1930 United States census returns, had five children: Adeline, Edna, George, Lucille, and Grace.
In the 1910 United States federal census, John’s occupation is given as that of carpenter at a stone quarry. Subsequent census records give John’s occupation as that of farmer, both a dairy farmer and a general farmer. According to his World War I draft registration card, which was date June 5, 1917, John was born on June 24, 1886. He was a self-employed farmer, living in Lockport, Will, Illinois. John was of medium height and build. He had brown eyes and black hair.
John married Frances Lenzi, daughter of Modesto Lenzi and Narcia [Family name unknown]. A researcher gives Frances life span as 1888 to 1965.
John and Frances had five children: William, Earl J, Rose, Lorraine and Agnes.
