Anna Marie Hennes and John Claussen's Family

Anna Marie Hennes, daughter of Michael, was born on March 10, 1878. She was baptized on March 23, 1878 in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Lemont, Cook, Illinois.

Anna married John Claussen, son of Claus Claussen and Nicholina Henriette Georgine Toussieng , who was not Catholic, on April 23, 1901. A dispensation had been given. Witnesses to their marriage were John Hennes and Catherine Friehauf. In 1910, John was thirty-four years of age indicating that he was born about 1876. John died on June 13, 1919 in an automobile accident. His occupation was given as that of retail liquor merchant.

John’s World War I draft registration card, which was dated September 12, 1918, tells us that John was born on January 1, 1876. He was a self-employed saloonkeeper. He was of medium height and build. John had blue eyes and brown hair.

Anna and John had at least two daughters.

  1. Lauretta Claussen was born about 1902. This is based upon her age, eight, in the 1910 United States census return. She died on January 30, 1970 at Lemont.

Lauretta married Andrew Oscar Lundeen],, son of Amadeus M. Lundeen and Elizabeth [family name unknown], some time in 1925. Andrew was born on February 2, 1897 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He died on December 18, 1949 at Lemont at the age of fifty-two. Andrew served in the Ill, S2 USNRF during World War I. Andrew’s occupation as given in the 1930 United States census return was that of a candy merchant.

Andrew’s World War I draft registration, which was dated June 5, 1918, tells us that he was born on February 2, 1897 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At this time, Andrew was employed by the Chicago – Alton Railroad Company. He had brown eyes and light brown hair.

  2. Helen Claussen was born about 1912. This is based upon her age, eighteen, in the 1930 United States census return. Helen is reported as being adopted in the 1930 United States census. She was a waitress in a local restaurant.

The following appeared in August 8, 1930 edition of The Lemonter.

"Miss Helen Claussen, daughter of Mrs. Anna Claussen of this city, and Bert Coghill of Coghill Country Club, were quietly married Saturday evening, August 6, at 8:00 o’clock, in the rectory of St. Alphonsus’ church, by the Rev. George J. Wunder. The only attendants were Miss Clara Kettman and George Dallman. The bride was dressed in a white ensemble with hose and slippers of white and a large white picture hat. They left Wednesday on a short honeymoon through parts of Wisconsin."

The obituary for her sister, Lauretta, suggests that Helen married a second time to a Mr. McGurdy.

In 1930, Anna was living on Main Street in Lemont, Illinois.
