The Family of Joseph Spiegel and Elisabeth Schorter

Joseph Spiegel is the oldest known member of this branch of the Spiegel family. The date of his birth is presently unknown. However, based on his age at the time of his death, he was born about 1755 probably at Ohnenheim, France. He died at the age of seventy-four years on December 29, 1829 at Ohnenheim, France. His occupation was that of a farm laborer.

Joseph married Elisabeth Schorter, daughter of Antoine Schorter and Marie Anne Muller. Their marriage probably took place at Ohnenheim, France. The date of Elisabeth's birth is presently unknown. However, based on her age at the time of her death, she was born about 1753 at Ohnenheim, France. She died at the age of eighty-two years on April 10, 1835 at Ohnenheim, France. Elisabeth was a day laborer.

Joseph and Elisabeth had at least five children, all of whom were born at Ohnenheim, France.

1. Elisabeth Spiegel was born on December 24, 1776. She died at the age of seventy-eight on December 11, 1854 at Ohnenheim, France. Elizabeth married at Ohnenheim, France to Jean George Martin. Jean George died on June 5, 1849 at Ohnenheim, France.
2. François Joseph Spiegel was born about 1778. He died on July 23, 1851 at Guémar, France. On February 17, 1819, he married at Guémar, France to Genevieve Charlotte Munie, daughter of Pierre Charles Munie and Marguerithe Beudin. Genevieve was born at Colmar, France on November 13, 1770. François Joseph served as a lieutenant in the French Army.
3. Mathias Spiegel was born on February 18, 1781. He died at the age of seventy-three on September 6, 1854 at Ohnenheim, France. He was a farmer and mason by profession.

   He married Anne Marie Rauch. Anne Marie died on July 18, 1850 at Ohnenheim, France.

   Mathias and Anne Marie had, at least, two children.

   1. François Spiegel was born about 1807.
   2. Gervair Spiegel was born about 1817.

4. Alexander Spiegel was born about 1795.
5. François Antoine Spiegel was born on May 24, 1797 {5 Prairial 5}. He died on February 13, 1861 at Guémar, France.
