Sharon did the AAU Triple Crown meet here in Richmond. There were something like 70 lifters yesterday; all women, and men up to 181. The meet was extremely well run. There were 2 sessions; morning was the men, afternoon was the women. Fred Hatfield was a guest speaker between sessions, which was really interesting.
This was Sharon's 1st meet, and she did absolutely awesome. She was in the 123 Raw Open class. There was 1 other woman in the class, Sherrie Fosdick. Both her and Barbara Beasley, who ran the meet, were great. She weighed in at 120.5 Friday night.
Squats: Her best lift in the garage has been 175 lbs. She opened with 165, absolutely no problem. Her second was 175; again, no problem at all. We went to 185 for her third; she again nailed it. Several people complimented her on her depth. Check the pics; I caught her 185 at rock bottom. She needs to work on getting the bar lower on her back.
Bench: She has real problems with the bench, and I'm really no help to her here, since my bench sucks ass. Her best lift in the garage has been 95, but she has struggled with that. She opened at 75, and got it. We went to 85 and got that on her second. The plan was to then do 95, but she was pumped from the Squat, and wanted to do 100. It got about 6 inches off her chest and stopped. She struggled to get it, but started to bring it up uneven, and they finally took it.
DL: Even though, this was her 1st meet, Sharon was really getting into the competition with Sherrie. Sharon had beaten her Squat by 15 lbs, but lost 25 on the bench. So she was 10 lbs down going into the DL. Her best garage DL had been 225. The plan was to open at 215, then 225, then try for maybe 235. What a joke.
Sharon pulled the 215, and Sherrie got her 230. We decided to do 230 as a second, and she nailed it. One of the judges asked her when she was going to actually put some weight on the bar ;) Sherrie did 250 as her second. At that point we figured she wasn't going to beat her total, but wanted to push the DL, all the same. So Sharon did 255 on her 3rd, and absolutely nailed it. She had probably 10 more lbs in her, maybe more. Sherrie did 260, and got it. She had also set a AAU sub-master record; she tried I think 265 on a fourth, but didn't get it.
So, all told Sharon totalled 525 in her first meet, 25 more than her goal of 500. She lost the class by 15 lbs. Sharon actually out-totaled the 148 class. But she qualified for World's in October, and she's really psyched about competing with Sherrie again ;)
