2003 AAU World's                Official Meet Results
Sharon lifted at the AAU World's here in Richmond on Oct 31st.

Barbara Beasley and the rest ran an excellent meet. It was split over three days; Friday was Women and Male Teen's up to 19, Saturday is Men up to 198, Sunday the rest. All told I think something like 300 lifters. A team of 30 or so from Puerto Rico, and about the same size from the Bahamas.

There were supposed to be 2 others at 123 raw, but one hurt her back the last week, and the other didn't make weight, and ended up in 132. So she was lifting alone in her class. She made up competition with a very strong 16-yo at 123, who had totalled 605 at the Junior Olympics, and the other woman who ended up in 132, just to keep her motivated.

As well, Sharon had bronchitis, and I guess a little pleurisy. She went to the doctor Tuesday, and got some antibiotics, which ended up tearing her stomach up. So she was also fighting diarrhea all day. Lots of fun ;)

Squats, she went (kg) 97.5/100/(105). The 100 second was a 10 lbs PR.  The third was a try for the world record; she got it about a third of the way up, but couldn't finish. She still needs to cut some depth. We've been working on it, but she got to the meet, and still sunk them too low. One of the head ref's joked with her afterwards, told her she REALLY didn't need to slap her butt on the floor ;) Still, 220 lbs was an awesome lift.

Bench, she went (kg) 45/50/52.5. Bench went really well for her. It's the first time she's ever gotten more than her opener. She went with using the blocks this time for her feet, and she really felt it made a difference. The 115 and change was a 16 lbs PR.

Deadlift, she went (kg) 125/140/(145). She was really fighting her stomach, and the second lift took a lot out of her. She had the third at 319 literally within an inch of locking out, but she said she got a stomach cramp. She was literally in tears at the end fighting it, but she lost her grip. Again, though, her second at 308 was a 5 lbs PR.

Her total was 292.5(kg), or 644 or so, and was an almost 40 lbs PR. She continues to amaze me. She lost Best Raw Open Lifter to Allyson Amerling, who totalled 870 at 148. But she still got her Class 1 total, and that's without gear.

Another cool thing, she's probably going to sit for the referree exam.  She sat with the side ref's all day Saturday, learning and making calls, and had a lot of fun.
