Sharon lifted in the afternoon session, at 123. Her squat opener of 85(187.4) was a piece of cake. Her second was 92.5(203.9), which she had missed three times in October. This one started to stall halfway up, but she kept her head up, and finished it strong. Her third was 95(209.4). This one stopped again, but again she kept her head up, and finished it. She's widened her stance quite a bit; she still goes way too low, but I guess you don't fix what's not broken. The 209.4 was almost a 25 lbs PR.
Bench: well, what can I say. She opened at 42.5(93.7), and got it easily. Her second was 47.5(104.8); it got halfway up, stalled, and she couldn't get it. We stayed the same with her third, with the same result. She (along with me, for that matter) hates the bench, but at least we know what to work on (delts and tri's).
Going into DL, she was down 5KG to Sherri Fosdick. She's been training sumo for the past 4 months, and doing pretty well. But in the warmups, at 225, she pitched forward and dropped the weight. I thought she had pulled a hamstring, but she said no, she had just lost her balance. But I could tell she was worried. One of the guys coaching another girl suggested she go conventional. She wanted to, so we went with it.
Her opener was 115(253.5), and it went up easily. She went with 127.5(281.5) on her second, which was her previous PR in October, and again got it pretty easily. She had won her class with the lift; Sherri had only called for 120(264.6) on her third. So she went for broke, and called for 137.5(303.1) on her third. It stalled a little at the start, but she gutted it up and locked it out. Awesome lift, for a better than 20 lbs PR.
So all told, she ended with 275(606.3), a 50+ lbs PR total, and not only won her class, but won Best Raw Open Lifter. Mega proud of her, especially because her mother passed away just a week and a half ago. Besides being at the hospital day and night, she had basically done only 2 workout in the last 2 weeks going into the meet. Next stop is AAU World's in October, where she'll be shooting for the World Record Squat of 225.
