Sharon did the AAU Raw Nationals yesterday, as always at 123 Open raw.
Going into it, we considered it a "recovery meet". After the meet in October, she had 2 surgeries (non-lifting related), and didn't lift for 4 months. Started back in March, very light full-body workouts.
We decided to have her do this meet, just to get her back into a meet, and as a test of where she was at. No real "training" cycle; we took 5 weeks to gradually work up to heavier weights.
Squat: 85/95/(105)/100kg
Her squat had basically come back to where she was in October. So the plan was to match her previous PR of 100kg on her 3rd attempt, and go for 105 on her 4th, to break the AAU WR.
Well, they misloaded the bar on her 3rd to 105. She got it, but was called for depth. OK, maybe. You can look at the pics; she was VERY close. So she got to retake her 3rd at 100, and got it.
Bench: 47.5/52.5/(55)kg
If anything, her bench is stronger now. The 52.5 matched her previous best, and she had done 120lbs a couple of times in the garage. But she let the bar come down too high on her chest on her third, and stalled about 4 inches off. Still matched her meet PR.
DL: 115/127.5/137.5kg
Deadlift hadn't come back as much. No surprise, the layoff/surgeries had taken a toll, and again she hadn't really done a true cycle to add strength. So going in, her DL attempts were really conservative.
She shocked me by getting the 137.5; that's only 5 lbs less than her previous best.
So she totalled 290kg, or 639lbs. Only 5 lbs off her best total, with no real training cycle going in. Totally awesome job.
We'll use these numbers to set up her training. Goals are to finally get the squat record and get a 700+ total in December, which again would be an AAU record.
Got to meet Kirk's wife and kids, they were great. And Kirk is one helluva strong dude.
