This sunset stereo pair was taken using about a thirty foot baseline.  This seems to be enough to give the foreground clouds position and shape, setting the distant coulds into the distance.  While it is certainly true that long baselines make things look smaller, distant objects can still appear at "infinity".  Distant objects need not appear flat.
