Baptism
We at Holy Spirit Church will be happy to assist you in preparing for and celebrating this sacrament. Children should be Baptized within a few weeks of their birth, if possible.
Baptism is the sacrament by which one is cleansed of original sin, made a temple of the Holy Spirit, and adopted child of God, and a member of the Catholic Church. These effects of the sacrament, however, presuppose certain obligations on the part of the parents who are asking to have their child baptized. At least one parent must be a Catholic and a member of Holy Spirit Church who is committed to raising their child in the Catholic Faith. If you are not a member of our parish and wish to become one, please call the Parish Office. We will be happy to assist you.
Catholics who are not members of Holy Spirit Church, but who wish to have their child Baptized here may do so under certain circumstances. These would include things such as having family in Holy Spirit, or some other connection to the Parish. In such cases, the permission of the family's actual pastor is absolutely necessary! The Parish Office can assist you in this matter.
Parents requesting Baptism for their child must attend a pre-Baptismal preparation class. Classes are offered on the 4th Sunday of the month at 9:30 AM in the Church. Baptisms are held on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 9:30 AM in the Church.
Sponsors for Baptism must meet the requirements of the Roman Catholic Church, including the following:
We will do everything in our power to Baptize every child who is brought to us according to the invocation of the Lord Jesus, "Let the little children come to me". Please call for any help we can give.
To arrange for your child to be Baptized at Holy Spirit Church, please call the Parish Office. |
