Marriage
Couples contemplating marriage are asked to call the rectory to discuss marriage preparation. Please contact the rectory a minimum of one year in advance and before social plans are finalized. Weddings are performed at Holy Spirit Church according to the common policy of the State of New Jersey as adopted by the Diocese of Metuchen.
As with any Sacrament, the Church requires that you receive some instruction and spiritual preparation prior to receiving the Sacrament of Marriage. This requirement can be fulfilled by attending a Marriage Preparation Session (Pre-Cana) or Engaged Encounter weekend. A brochure about these programs can be obtained from the parish office. The Deacon or Priest can give you more information.
Those who may be married at Holy Spirit
Church are:
In addition, the bride or groom must be a practicing Catholic.
Those who wish to be married at Holy Spirit Church must first complete an "Application for Marriage" Form either in person or over the phone with the Parish Office.
You will need to contact the Church in which you received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation, and ask them to send recent copies of your certificates to the Priest who will be performing your wedding.
State Law requires that you obtain a Marriage License. Contact City Hall at least a month before your wedding for further instructions about this.
May God bless you with grace filled time of preparation for marriage, and with many long and happy years of married life!
