Background: Thomas Hoover is an active member of our community. In addition to volunteering in our schools, he and his wife Michele provide equestrian patrols for the BLM sponsored Bicycle Equestrian Trail Assistance on Fort Ord. Thomas first came to Monterey County in 1972 when his father attended NPS. On a later visit, in 1988, Thomas met Michele who was living with her grandmother and attending MPC. Married in 1990, Michele and Thomas lived in San Diego, CA and Woodbridge, VA before returning to California. Thomas and Michele moved to the Spreckels Union School District in 2003, shortly before Thomas was recalled to active duty and deployed to Iraq. Michele started working as a substitute teacher during this time. When Thomas returned from Iraq, Michele accepted a position teaching at Spreckels Elementary School. After returning from Iraq, Thomas retired from the US Navy and hired on at MBARI working on underwater robots. |
