Troubleshooting Excessive Swimming Pool Foam

Foaming water is not that common in swimming pools (though it's often seen in hot tubs and spas where there's a high number of bathers in proportion to a relatively small volume of water), but it can happen in pools too. Likely causes of excessive foaming are soft water (a low calcium hardness in your area), algaecides, or high total dissolved solids caused by creams, shampoos, etcs.

You can purchase "defoamers" at your local pool dealer or online, but make sure you balance the water before trying this route, as adding more stuff to the pool doesn't always help. In the end, you may need to change the water.
