Before the shell can be delivered, the pool area must be properly excavated. The electrical work and plumbing must also be complete. A two-inch bed of sand is smoothed into the base of the pool, then the shell is lowered in the hole. Sometimes, it takes a number of tries to get things level. After the fiberglass shell is positioned correctly, about a foot of water is poured into the bottom of the pool. This serves to anchor the shell in place. Then the pool is filled at approximately the same rate as the side of the wall is packed with sand (this keeps the shell from bulging out as the water fills it). Pouring a concrete deck around the flange locks the pool into position.
