Installing a Fountain

Fountains can be added to your pool, a pond, or stand alone in your yard. They can make the landscape more interesting, and many find the pleasant gurgle soothing.

Types of Fountains

Spray Fountains

As the name implies, these fountains spray water into the air. Most spray fountains are available in kits that include the fountain, a nozzle, a pump, fittings, and a control valve for adjusting the spray height. Quality varies much depending on price.

Tip: To clean a fountain nozzle, use an old toothbrush.

Statuary Fountains

Statuary fountains are usually made of concrete, though they can be finished to look like another material. Some are sold separately, and others come in kits. Wall fountains often spill water through a decorative hole into a basin that hides the pump. If you have a freestanding wall (that can hide the plumbing behind it), you have the ideal place for a statuary fountain. If you do not have such a wall, it may be possible to build out a wall that is part of a structure, mount the fountain on the new "wall," and lay the plumbing behind it.
