Spa Ozonator Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ozonator?

An ozonator is a piece of hot tub equipment that adds ozone to the water.

What is Ozone?

Ozone, or O3, is active oxygen that is naturally a part of our planet's atmosphere; it protects us from harmful rays from the sun and makes an effective hot tub sanitizer.

Does ozone eliminate the need for other spa chemicals?

No, ozone has a relatively short life span. It reduces the need for spa chemicals such as bromine, but cannot eliminate the need for chemicals altogether.

Can you save money by installing an ozonator?

Yes, since spa ozonators reduce the amount of chemical sanitizers needed, this will cut down the amount of chemicals you need to buy by %25-35. The electricity they require to run is minimal.

Can Ozone hurt humans or animals?

Not in the quantities needed for hot tub maintenance. It is easy on humans and spa equipment. You should never breathe concentrated ozone, however, as this can be harmful.

Why is an ozonator better than chlorine?

Ozone purifies water approximately 3,000 times faster than chlorine and it has no odor in the quantities needed for hot tub maintenance. It leaves no chemical byproducts. Also, it does not irritate the eyes or skin, and it is gentle to spa equipment.

Does ozone kill viruses?

Ozone does indeed kill any viruses that are present in the water.

Does an ozonator mean I won't have to filter the water as often?

You will still need a good hot tub filter. Though the ozone destroys impurities that are introduced into the water, the microscopic remains will still need to be filtered out.
