Swimming Pool & Hot Tub Chemical Testing Tips

Let the circulation system run for 15 minutes before testing.

Reach down 18 inches into the water to take samples.

Keep your testing kit in a dark dry place to preserve the testing agents.

Always wash your hands after handling chemicals.

Don't wash the testing materials with soap or tap water (use pool water).

Be careful not to get your chemicals wet or contaminated with dirty scoops.

Don't mix chemicals.

As you can see, there are only a few hard, fast rules to keeping your water clean and safe for your family's enjoyment.  Keeping the chemicals in your hot tub and swimming pool balanced is relatively simple as long as you remember to monitor the balance (get in the habit of checking about three times a week).  Also following any instructions that came with the pool/spa or are on the back of the chemical bottles.
