Notes on Francis Spinney:
I strongly believe and am therefore assuming for the sake of making a proper link to the Thomas1 Spinney Genealogy above, that the Francis Spinney who married Elizabeth Place and whom I know to be my Great Grandfather, is the same Francis Lemuel Spinney that is the son of George5 Pettegrew Spinney and Ann Libbey. Everything below this link has been verified by many of the Advill Ami10 Spinney line and is fairly accurate due to the work done by Jeanette Miriam11 (Spinney) Paul and her daughter Joan Carol Paul. (My very special thanks to them and Elizabeth Carolyn11 (Spinney) Hovey, my mother, who made genealogy a part of my life.)

Another possibility is that my great grandfather Francis Spinney below may be the son of a Francis Spinney who married Elisabeth Freeman on 5 Jul 1840 in Eliot ME. I have long forgotten where I came across this name however, and I have not been able to find any other verification of this name or marriage.

Everything above this point was verified by articles such as The Yarmouth Herald, Tuesday, September 30, 1930 Titled: New Englanders in Nova Scotia. Verification of many facts and most of the Samuel2 path of information was taken from the book Old Kittery pages 740-742. Additional verification of facts, with date discrepancies, was obtained from the book Rambles About Portsmouth page 284.

Ami and Lida's home was on the right just after entering South Eliot from the bridge. There is presently a causeway built just a few feet from the original bridge site.

As of February 1991 their home is still standing at 15 Main Street Eliot ME. It originally had an open porch on two sides of the house which have since been closed in. Notes on Advill Ami Spinney:
When Advill and Elsie were first married they lived with his parents at 15 Main Street. They rented for a time and later purchased a home which is still standing as of 1991. The road, which was originally the driveway of the home, ran from Main Street through to Pleasant Street. This is now known as Cove Road. In later years they purchased a home at 9 Bolt Hill Road which also still stands as of 1991 although the original barns, hen houses and garage have been razed. When their fAmily was all grown they sold this large farm and rented until purchasing a house at 112 Main Street which is still owned by Elsie as of 1991.

Advill worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (now called Kittery Naval Shipyard). He hired in as an apprentice plumber and worked his way through the ranks to retire with the title of Master of Public Works. When Advill and Elsie lived in the house on what is now Cove Road, Elsie's father Ernest Wood moved in with them and the two men established a poultry business known as Riverside Poultry Farm. Besides working on the Navy Yard and helping run the poultry farm Advill kept cows and pigs and had gardens which supplied most of the fAmilies table foods.

Advill served as fire chief in the towns voluntary fire department for many years. He was one of the men who fought for, and saw built, the first Eliot High School gymnasium. He was active in the South Eliot Methodist Church and the Eliot Lions Club. In March 1954, at town meeting, Advill was given the Fabyan Drake Memorial Award for Outstanding Citizen. He was the first citizen to receive this award which is still presented yearly to a citizen of Eliot ME.
