HOPEWELL BAPTIST CHURCH
Hopewell Baptist Church was organized on April 14, 1851. In total there were fifteen original members of the church. Seven new members came with letters in hand, five under watch care, and three to be baptized. Rev. A. K. Tribble was elected as the first pastor and Brothers Thomas Burgess and Sampson Clayton were set aside as the original deacons. Hopewell grew quickly and by the end of the first year membership had almost doubled to twenty-nine members.
Hopewell has been involved in mission work for a long time. In September 1909, the church held revivals in the communities of Birmingham and Liberty Grove. Many were saved and joined Hopewell Baptist Church as a result of these revivals. On October 29, 1909 a second group of twenty-eight members requested letters and formed Liberty Grove Baptist Church.
