LIBERTY GROVE METHODIST CHURCH

The “old Liberty Grove yard” was where the Liberty Grove Methodist Church was located. Older people have said that this church was destroyed by a cyclone. “The History of Cherokee County, page 246” states that a James Epperson helped organize the old Liberty Grove Methodist Church. James Epperson is buried in the Liberty Grove Cemetery. He was born in 1834 and died on August 17, 1862. The Methodist Conference deeded Liberty Grove Baptist Church a portion of the land which included his grave. Many of the unmarked graves are of members from the Methodist Church. Mr. Epperson’s grave is the oldest marked grave.
