PLEASANT HILL BAPTIST CHURCH
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church was organized in 1880 in the Newtown Community of Milton County, Georgia (now Fulton County). The first church was located on the western side of Stapler Road near its intersection with Old Alabama Road approximately one mile east of the intersection of Jones Bridge Road and Old Alabama Road. Sometime around the turn of the century the church was moved directly across Stapler Road from its original site. (Stapler Road does not exist today.)
In 1927, Pleasant Hill Church moved west to a location near the intersection of Jones Bridge Road with Old Alabama Road on Jones Bridge Way. The members of Pleasant Hill Church started raising funds for the construction of a new church building in 1947. It was a slow process as construction proceeded as funds were raised. The majority of the labor for the construction of the new church was done by church members, their relatives and friends. The congregation moved into the new building in August, 1952. The old church building located approximately thirty feet south of the new building was torn down and moved away.
The first pastor was Rev. W. L. Singleton. Thirty pastors have served Pleasant Hill Church. The longest serving time was by Rev. Mercer Williams, who was pastor for twenty five years.
