ST. JAMES UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

After the Emancipation-Proclamation, 1863 was a very special time. The reconstruction act was put into effect and that same year a number of black people came together to from what is now known as St. James United Methodist Church. Some of the founding fathers were slaves, share-croppers, farmers, and yet they were God-fearing people that loved the Lord. Some of the founding fathers were John Manning, Zeke Mitchell, Amos Hutchins, Jim Cook, Riley Strickland and the Rucker families. The church (as of records kept and known) was located at 109 Cumming Street in a one-room frame building and parking on the street. In 1968 the church was relocated to Kimball Bridge Road.
