If you ever need to update your firmware, you can always download the latest released firmware at
Linksys. For now, only beta firmwares for this
router can be found at Broadband Reports' Linksys Forum.
Whenever you download a firmware, there should be some sort of file that has an extension of bin. That is the firmware. The other
crucial file is the tftp.exe, which is the upgrading firmware software.
The EtherFast Cable/DSL Router (BEFSR41/BEFSR11/BEFSRU31) has a 512KB flash chip that can be upgraded with a new (or old)
firmware. Please read the instructions below on how to upgrade the router's firmware.
Instructions on how to update your router's firmware:
Double click on tftp.exe to run the upgrade firmware software. You should see something like this:
Server: This is your router's IP address. By default, it is set to 192.168.1.1.
Password: By default, the router's password is 'admin' (no single quotes).
File: If the firmware hasn't already been selected the correct bin file (firmware file), click the '...' button to the
right and find the correct firmware for use to upgrade (or downgrade) the router's firmware. In the picture's case above, code.bin
(firmware 1.44.2z) was selected.
After you fill in all the above information, click the Upgrade button to update the router's firmware revision. It will show a
progress bar (picture not shown). Be careful to not let anything disrupt between the computer used to upgrade the router's firmware
and the router itself (power outage, etc...). If something bad happens, like the upgrade process corrupted the firmware, you can go
read here to get the fix.
