I chose to invest in D-Link AirPlus Extreme G High-Speed 2.4 GHz Wireless 108 Mbps equipments after having success with D-Link
AirPlus Enhanced 2.4 GHz Wireless 22 Mbps equipments (DI-614+ & DWL-650+). They are DI-624 revision C wireless router, DWL-G520
revision A3 wireless adapter for desktop computer and DWL-G650 revision B3 wireless adapter for laptop computer. I always wanted to
go 802.11g route (54 Mbps) after playing around with 802.11b (11 Mbps) stuff. But buying the three mentioned D-Link 802.11g products
allowed me to double the theoretical throughput to 108 Mbps from the normal 54 Mbps 802.11g specs. Super G mode welcomed me and is
here to achieve higher throughput. Super G is the name for 108 Mbps. Basically, regular g (802.11g) is 54 Mbps, and Super G is
twice as fast as regular g, giving 108 Mbps. This is the sole reason why I wanted Super G equipment - more bandwidth. 802.11b did
not satisfy my bandwidth hunger. I needed more bandwidth.
108 Mbps for wireless accessing is only available for DI-624 revisions B and C wireless router. If you have a router that is
a revision A, then Super G mode is not possible for you. This is due to older chipset (the brains if you want to call it)
in the router unable to provide the extra performance upgrade. For the wireless adapters, any DWL-G520 revisions should do, and
only DWL-G650 revisions B and C will do. DWL-G650 revision A gets no love from Super G. Again, older chipset not able to support
Super G.
This editorial is here for one thing: Super G (108 Mbps) performance testing. On the next page, details about the test setup
are given and laid out. Is it worth it to have Super G and have the theoretical 108 Mbps throughput for your wireless? Is it really
worth the investment? You shall find out soon enough on the next few pages. Enjoy the numbers that I slaved for you. I hope it's
worth it or at least helpful for you.
