Bought I/O Magic's MagicWriter 24x10x40 CD-RW drive from Circuit City on Monday, October 14, 2002. It was on a close out deal,
so Circuit City was selling it for $49.99. Although since it was a close out deal, there were two rebates on this CD-RW drive. One
is from Circuit City for $20, the other from I/O Magic for $20. So, the deal results a $10 24x10x40 CD-RW drive. This is cheap
compared to the Digital Research Technologies 16x10x40 CD-RW drive that I bought (and reviewed here by me)
from Best Buy almost a year ago, on November 23, 2001. I had to pay $79.99 + tax for that 16x10x40 CD-RW drive, while I have to pay
$49.99 + tax for this 24x10x40 CD-RW drive.
I got home some time later on Monday, unpacked the contents of the box.
Picture of contents:

The contents:
- 24x10x40 CD-RW drive
- 1 blank 10X CD-RW disc, by Ritek
- 1 IDE ribbon cable, analog cable (CD audio cable), 4 screws
- NTI's CD-Maker 2000 CD Plus v5.1
- Manual/notice
About the contents: If you read my DRT 16x10x40 CD-RW drive review (or have one), you'd notice that
I/O Magic's MagicWriter 24x10x40 is no different than the DRT 16x10x40. All contents are the same, except that the NTI's CD-Maker
2000 CD Plus version is different at the most and that there's now a 24x10x40 CD-RW drive than a 16x10x40 CD-RW drive. The
MagicWriter 24x10x40 CD-RW drive that was in the box is a badged up
Hi-Val 24x10x40 CD-RW drive part
#H241040A-15R which in turn is a badged up BTC 24x10x40 CD-RW drive.
Here is a picture of the CD-RW drive:
To spare the boring details of installation, let's just say that everything was mounted, cabled, and installed correctly.
After getting into Windows XP Pro (with SP1), the drive was detected to use UDMA 2 (ATA33) interface. Let's take a look at the
CD-RW drive's specifications.
