Our Priests
Father Mathew Vellankal, Pastor
Fr. Mathew was assigned to Holy Spirit Parish on Feb 1, 2006. He earned a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and History; a bachelor's degree in Education; and a master's degree in Education while in India and Belgium. After studying in the Salesian Seminary in Kerala, India, he was ordained to the priesthood in January 5, 1987. He served as a youth director for the Salesian, a principal of a large school and an associate pastor. While serving as a international youth chaplain, Fr. Mathew travedled to 65 countries raising funds for the youth programs. In his travels, he applied for assignment in the Oakland Diocese and was accepted.
Fr. Mathew was assigned to Queen of All Saints, Concord; Our Lady of Guadalupe, Fremont and now to Holy Spirit, Fremont. In his opening talks, Fr. Mathew says, "I speak the way I do, because I am from India." At 48 in May 2006, Fr. Mathew brings a wealth of youthful energy, prayerful spirituality, vibrant enthusiasm, a genuine love and interest in people and a diverse pastoral experiences to his new duties at Holy Spirit Parish.
For relaxation, Fr. Mathew performs and entertains the young at hearts with his outstanding magic show that makes people laugh, entertains and teaches about God and life. He has won many first place awards for his magic performances.
Fr. Thomas Khue joined Holy Spirit Parish on Novermber 1, 2009.
Father Johnson Abraham
Fr. Johnson is in-residence at Holy Spirit. He arrived in August 2007 and participates in all sacramental activities in the parish. His primary assignment is a chaplain at Washington and Kaiser hospitals. Fr. Johnson attended the seminary in Shillong, India and was ordained in India. His priestly assignments were Assistant Pastor, Pastor, Diocesan Director of Finance, Diocesan Director of Social Work, and Vicar General; all in India. Father enjoys reading and traveling. He is available as a spiritual director to give counseling. He enjoys watching TV and movies, especially musicals.
