MAY - 2009 STATUS REPORT

----------------------------------

Hudson Lake Conservation Association

Since the fall of 2004, our HLCA has been working towards an effective conservation association for the entire Hudson Lake community.   Since then, we have effectively become organized, have been chartered by the State Of Indiana and have been awarded grants from the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources (IDRN) to improve our management of the quality of Hudson Lake.

Our efforts with the IDNR have successfully assured the cleanliness of the lake’s water, the management of the lake’s aquatic plant population and the evaluation of dredging the northern channel around the island to the “Little Hudson”.   But then, unfortunately, the IDNR will not support the installation of high-capacity pumps to retain the lake’s water at its legal level.   So, we are currently looking for funding from other sources; however, in today’s economy, the funds are not readily available.

Our Comprehensive Diagnostic Study (CDS) evaluated the condition of all the various aspects of Hudson Lake and its 8.5 square-mile watershed.   It was initiated in January, 2006, with our application to the IDNR for funding.   When we were awarded the grant for $35,000 to conduct the CDS, we hired V3, an ecological and environmental firm, to execute the study.   V3 completed their evaluation after 18 months of research and analysis, in June, 2008, and provided us with an IDNR approved report on the lake and watershed condition.

At the same time, we have been successful of obtaining a second award of approximately $15,000 per year, which we applied for in January, 2007, to begin a 5-year Aquatic Vegetation Management Program (AVMP) to manage and treat the entire population of the aquatic species of plants in Hudson Lake.   This program has been and will be conducted from 2007 to 2011.

As you can see, looking into the future, all of these grants will approximate $95,000, in total.   Since we (HLCA) are required to provide 10% (approximately $9,500) of the support for these IDNR grants, it is important that you, each member of our association, very seriously perform these two primary functions:

1.      Persuade every person you know in the Hudson Lake community who is not in our association (HLCA) to join us in a continued effort toward the betterment of Hudson Lake.

2.      Pay your annual fee of only $25, which is due on the May 31st of each year, to your Area Representative.   If you wish, you may send your annual fee directly to me (see below).

Every annual contribution of $25 is needed for us to continue our programs.   Also, if you wish to volunteer for joining one of our projects / efforts, please contact me.

Let us all wish each other well for the betterment of Hudson Lake.   Thank you.

HLCA - MEMBERSHIP

Our annual fees are the means by which we are able to operate and to accomplish these goals.   But, even further, we must seriously and continually talk to our friends and neighbors, encouraging them to join our association and to help us make our Hudson Lake the best that it can be.

We ask that all new members print out and complete  a copy of our Membership Roster Informational Form ( MRIF), and submit it with your $25.00 payment  for HLCA  annual membership dues.  Kindly forward your fee to Bill Companik, HLCA President, 7365 E. Hudson Pointe Lane,  New Carlisle, IN,  46552

Current members should complete a new MRIF  when any of your information has changed, that is: name, address, home phone, cell phone, fax or E-mail id.

Let us all stick together and restore Hudson Lake to one of the most beautiful recreational resources in the State Of Indiana.
