Note
If you email me and would like a reply, please make sure that your email system will allow email from other networks. I've received some inquiries from people on AOL, that when I tried to reply I got a message saying that my email was blocked. So, I was never able to get back in touch with these people.
My email address is huffinec at comcast.net. Writing my email address this way keeps web crawler programs from picking up my address and sending me Spam.
Some Genealogy
These ancestor files only go through to the generation before my parents. I prefer not to post information about the living on this website. Mostly because I'm too lazy to ask permission to post from everyone. If you're related to me and would like more information on these families, please contact me at huffinec at comcast.net. I have found a wealth of information on the internet and most of the information in these links is the result of the labor of others. At the bottom of this page are some links to websites that have provided me much information and these websites gave me a good start on my research. I've used the resources that I have here in Denver, the main library and the National Archives office at the Denver Federal Center, to verify the information I've found on the web. I've even been able to correct some of the information and add new information as well. Except for what little data I have on the King family, I can't claim any of this as my original work. Thank you to those who have shared your information with others.
My Huffine Ancestors - My Huffine roots go back to Germany in the 1600s, then to Pennsylvania. My fifth great-grandfather, Johann Daniel Hofheintz, came to America with his brother on the ship Pallas in 1763. About 1771 he moved to North Carolina, his son Philip later settled in Tennessee. My third great-grandparents, Thomas Huffine and Matilda Sparkman, settled in Wayne County, TN before 1830. The family remained there until about 1901, when my great-grandfather and his brothers moved west to Oklahoma and other parts. About 1926, my grandfather moved his family to Texas.
My Henderson Ancestors - My father's mother was Lily Adele Henderson. These are her ancestors.
My Moore Ancestors - My mother's father was Fredrick Charles Moore. These are his ancestors.
My King Ancestors - My mother's mother was Ruth King. Here is the little bit of information I have on her family. I have found lots more information on this family, I hope to get this posted soon.
My LaFon Ancestors - My mother's paternal grandmother was Louisa Lavina LaFon. She was born in Henry County, TN in 1854. She married George Perrian Moore. Her family moved to Texas and settled in Johnson County when she was a child. I've discovered that through the LaFon family I'm related to a former Vice President of the United States.
My Wharton Ancestors - Josie Wharton, my great-grandmother, was born in Wayne County, TN in 1873. She married James Henry Huffine, they moved to Oklahoma about 1901. This family information was researched by Andy McCloskey, my second cousin. He was gracious enough to share this information with me. He can be reached at AMcClosk at aol.com.
My Hamer Ancestors - (coming soon) I have recently been found by another cousin, Tom Hooker, who has generously provided me with a great deal of information about the ancestors of Carrie Hicks Hamer. Carrie Hicks Hamer was my great-great grandmother. She married Isaac Moore. This information takes the Hamer family back to the 17th century. Once I get things organized I will be posting it on this website. If you would like to get in touch with Tom, email me and I will help you contact him.
History and Biographies
Samuel Thomas Moore was my great-grandfather George Perrian Moore's brother. I found this little biographical sketch in some papers that my mother gave me years ago, this biography can also be found in Dan Moore's book, The Descendants of John Moore of Somerset County, Maryland.
Some Photos
Photos - taken in 1952 at my grandmother, Lily Adele Huffine's funeral. There are Henderson and Huffine family members in the pictures.
Links - These websites have been very helpful in my research:
Huffines Family History - this is a spectacular website, researched and created by Denise Young, who is my fifth cousin, once removed. She was kind enough to add information in her website on other Huffine lines, and I found my line on her website.
Wagnon - Gamblin Genealogy - Huffines Page
Henderson - this is a great website, researched and created by Doug Henderson, my second cousin once removed. I've never met him, but he seems like a pretty nice guy. I haven't done very much research on my Henderson relatives, so the family outline above is almost completely copied from Doug's website (I guess I should have asked his permission first).
Wayne County TN - in southern Middle Tennesse, this is where my Huffine ancestors lived for most of the 19th century. There is a great deal of historical information here.
NARA - The National Archives and Records Administration. I am fortunate that there is a NARA regional center at the Denver Federal Center. This location houses all of the U.S. census records that have been made available to the public, including the 1930 census.
