Sculptures
The best statement I could make about creating sculptures is: I come upon objects that seem to require being the basis of a work art. I do not internally make the art, in some ways it develops itself. The process is based on not a cognitive decision, but more on a required responsibility on my part to bring these unrelated objects together in a some what cohesive single object. There is a thread of similarity over the years with the pieces, the integration of natural and manmade objects. The man made object are at times distorted by events like extreme heat, collisions or water exposure. Natural forms are sometime more formal and symmetric than the manmade objects that they are married to. Objects are juxtaposed and joined in various ways depending on what that materials are mated together. Finishing is done in such a fashion as to have dissimilar objects merge into each other to form one cohesive statement. Color is applied or not applied in the same manner as the placement of elements. The piece may call for a certain color or finish accent. The resulting image is can be mysterious, poetic, dynamic and or whimsical.
