Musings of the non-stop mind
... about me
I'm a latte-loving, Volvo-driving, liberal-minded
Seattleite. I love words, puzzles and, of course, creating things.
... my family
I live with my wife, Jennifer and our three cats
(Athena, Apollo and Hermes). Jennifer is a legal researcher for the
Hanford Litigation Fund.
My brother, Doug Hunt, is a researcher at UCAR in Boulder, CO. He works on the
GPS/MET, COSMIC project which collects climate data and tracks global warming.
... my work
I'm a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft in
the Office group. I've worked on Macintosh Office 98 and 2001, as well as
Office XP and Office 2003 for Windows. My specialty is
Smart Tags, IntelliSense (e.g. AutoCorrect), and all things UI (Windows
NSE, auto-layout engines, bitmap effects, DirectX).
Most Recently I architected the Office 2007 Live Preview feature (hover on items to preview) for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Prior to working at Microsoft, I was a developer for Quark (working on
QuarkXPress) in Denver, CO.
... my interests
Machines and their workings. Motorcycles. Hiking.
Poetry. Hearts. Geocaching.
... my likes
Clarity and honesty. Elegant code. The cyberpunk
movement (e.g. Neal Stephenson, William Gibson).
... my dislikes
Bureaucracy. Inappropriate product tying. Fiscal
irresponsibility (e.g. the Bush administration).
... whatever else
I grew up in Boulder, Colorado. I have a love for
the mountains. My family comes from Parr (Cornwall) and London, England. I also
have relatives on my father's side from Eastern Europe.
