Bachelor of Science, University of Colorado at Boulder

                Major:                    Electrical Engineering with Computer Science specialty

 

Areas of Proficiency:

 

• Extensive experience with the C++ programming in language. Also very knowledgeable of C#, Java, Pascal, BASIC, PL/I and 80x86 and 68K assembly languages

• Thorough understanding of Windows 9x, NT, and XP operating systems as well as NMAKE and Visual Studio programming environments

• Comprehensive experience with COM and component programming principles (e.g. IUnknown, IDispatch)

• Considerable understanding of MS Word and MS Office DLL internals

• Very familiar with Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, FrontPage and Excel code bases

• Very well versed in Desk Top Publishing from both a programming and end-user standpoint

• Experienced with Macintosh Toolbox API

• In-depth knowledge of Novell's IPX transport; implemented an IPX peer-to-peer client network

• Extensive experience with Windows' and Macintosh's graphics and text formats

• Excellent background in PC architecture, configuration, and DOS internals

Senior Software Design Engineer [Windows Office User Experience Team] Redmond, WA (2003 - present)

• Presently working on graphical UI enhancements for the next version of Microsoft Office (as yet unannounced)

• Independently improved Office-wide build environment by substantially speeding up and enhancing the Microsoft “build.exe” tool, resulting in an estimated 3-5% productivity improvement of all ~500 Microsoft Office developers

Senior Software Design Engineer [Windows Office Document Services Team] (2001 - 2003)

• Implemented key Office 2003 features including the Shared Workspace feature, STS integration and DRM (a.k.a. IRM) email-based UI

 

MICROSOFT

Software Design Engineer [Windows Word Team] (2000 – 2001)

• Implemented Smart Tag plug-ins software for Stock Symbol Recognition, Address Lookup, Contact Lookup, and user-specified lookup (MOFL)

• Wrote extremely efficient and scalable Trie-based token lookup for MOFL Smart Tags

• Wrote HTTP-based MOFL automatic update logic

• Directed localization for all Smart Tags plug-ins

 

MICROSOFT

Software Design Engineer [Macintosh Office Team]  Redmond, WA (1997 - 2000)

• Designed three new Office 2001 features (The CONTACT detector, Flag for Follow Up and Japanese Reconversion)

• Directed integration of the new Entourage E-mail application into Office 2001

• Office 2001 Event Monitor (e.g. AutoCorrect/AutoFormat) specialist

• Fixed over 1500 bugs in diverse areas of Word, Office, Excel and Office file converters

• Shipped three major products: Office 98 for Macintosh, Japanese Office 98 for Macintosh and  Office 2001 for Macintosh

 

QUARK, INC.

Software Engineer [QuarkXPress Team]  Denver, CO (1990 - 1997)

• Implemented several Windows and Mac cross-platform libraries, including an extensive toolbar windowing library

• Wrote key features for the QuarkXPress 4.0 product

• Acted as team's Windows 95 User Interface consultant

• Was key team member in porting QuarkXPress for Windows 3.1 to Win32 (NT [Intel and Alpha], and Windows 95)

• Implemented a Windows-based IPX peer-to-peer network for QuarkXPress for Windows which performs fast runtime copy checking and reliable transaction-based communication

• Ported, re-designed, developed and maintained the Quark Installer and Registration Program for Windows

• Wrote RTF import filter and export filter for QuarkXPress

• Implemented a very complete, best-in-the-business Macintosh PICT to Windows Metafile converter

 

IBM

Applications Programmer/Research Assistant.  Boulder, CO (May 1989 - October 1989)

• Designed, coded and tested text-graphic output engine for a product contracted by Whirlpool Inc. to efficiently load trucks.  Because of superior work on this project (and earlier projects), was offered a year-long student research position at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY

• Programmed various short-term projects; maintained IBM RT computer lab; gained experience with VM/CMS operating system

• Presented at Microsoft’s Malaysia’s TechED 2001.  Conducted Smart Tags programming seminars and presented 100+ developer Good Programming practices speech

- Wrote and approved contracts with vendors, coordinated activities
