She became sick Christmas afternoon.8
Funeral services for Margaret J Carman were held at her late home at 315 East Milwaukee Street, Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin, on 1 January 1918 at 1 p.m., services conducted by Rev. R. G. Pierson.8,12

     Eugenia Mildred Carney was born at DeKalb, St. Lawrence County, New York, on 7 February 1900.5,1,2 She was the daughter of John Lester Carney and Winifred Fredenburg.2,4 Eugenia Mildred Carney married at Camp Whippoorwill in the Adirondacks, New York, on 17 July 1927, at age 27, Darrell Dayton Huntress, age 26, son of Arnold Vaness Huntress and Ermina Gertrude McRoberts.1,2 Eugenia Mildred Carney died at Edward John Noble Hospital, Gouveneur, St. Lawrence County, New York, on 4 April 1990 at age 90.5,2 She was buried at Union Cemetery, Risley Road, DeKalb Junction, St. Lawrence County, New York.2
      "... she was a graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy and Syracuse University, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. She later received a degree in education from Potsdam State Teachers' College.
She married Darrell Dayton Huntress July 17, 1927, at Camp Whippoorwill in the Adirondacks. The couple had resided in Gouverneur since 1931.
Mrs. Huntress was a teacher at Canton ATI and throughout the Gouverneur school system. She served as principal of the Balmat grade school, and prior to retiring in 1971, was a junior high English teacher at Gouverneur Central.
Mr. Huntress was employed by the New York Central Railroad from 1918 to 1957. He also operated a rural bakery route until 1958, when he began working for the Gouverneur Central School system. In 1960 he was made janitor-custodian of Gouverneur High School, a position he held until his death June 24, 1963, at the age of 62.
Mrs. Huntress was very active in organizations on both the local and state levels. She served as the town historian for Gouverneur and was also a life member of the Gouverneur Historical Association, an organization which she founded and served as first president of.
Mrs. Huntress was a member of the Richville Historical Association, St. Lawrence County Historical Association and the Franklin County Historical and Museum Society. She was also active in the North Country Local Historian Association and New York State Association of Municipal Historians.
During her career as a historian, Mrs. Huntress had taken a census of the Gouverneur cemeteries. She had also written a history of one room school houses in St. Lawrence County, as well as a collection of biographies of early doctors in the Gouverneur area.
Mrs. Huntress was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers' Association and a life member of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers. She was also active in the Gouverneur Garden Club and Gouverneur Senior Citizens, and was a life member of the Shakespeare Club.
In 1981, Mrs. Huntress received the "Citizen of the Year" award presented by Wainwright Post 6338, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in recognition of her years of dedicated service to Gouverneur and the surrounding areas."2 She resided at 26 John St, Gouveneur, St. Lawrence County, New York, in 1990.5,2
