     John Ellison Hancock was born at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, on 18 February 1844.1,2 He was the son of John Hancock and Hannah Cross.1 John Ellison Hancock married at Marblehead, Essex County, Massachusetts, on 5 July 1871, at age 27, Alice Cox Huntress, age 19, (both) of Salem, daughter of Darling Huntress and Eleanor Staples, ceremony performed by J. L. Hewes, Minister.1 John Ellison Hancock died at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, on 17 August 1887 at age 43.3
      John Ellison Hancock was an artisan at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts. He was a soldier in the Civil War (1st Mass. Heavy Artillery). He, age 18, enlisted in the Civil War Union Army on 19 March 1862 as a Private.4 John E. Hancock mustered in the Civil War in Company L, 1st Mass. Heavy Art'ry.., inducted as a Private, discharged as a Private.5 He resided at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, on 5 July 1871.1 On 6 January 1890, Alice, widow of John E. Hancock, who served in Company L and A of the 1st Mass. Heavy Art'ry.., filed for a Civil War widows pension from the state of Massachusetts.6

     John Hancock first signer of the Declaration of Independence was born at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, on 12 January 1736/37.3,4 He was the son of Rev. John Hancock and Mary Hawke.3 John Hancock first signer of the Declaration of Independence died at New Braintree, Worcester County, Massachusetts, on 8 October 1793 at age 56.2
