      Erastus Huntress was a farmer at Mount Chase Plantation, Penobscot County, Maine. He was a soldier in the Civil War (Co G, 17th Me Vol. Inf.) He enlisted in Dayton Plantation, Aroostook County, Maine as a substitute for bachelor H. Huston.^1,3 Erastus Huntress mustered at Maine in the Civil War in Company G, 17th Maine Infantry, inducted as a Private, discharged as a Private.⁴ He, age 30, enlisted in the Civil War on 2 September 1863.⁵ He was drafted into Company G 17th Maine Inf. as a private on 2 September 1863.⁵ On 10 September 1866, Eunice, mother of Erastus Huntress, who served in Company G of the 17th Maine Infantry, filed for a Civil War pension.³
