Gideon Walker Huntress was born at Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, between 3 April 1778 and 2 April 1779 (calculated from age at death).4,5,6 He was the son of Seth Huntress and Sarah Dame.3 Gideon Walker Huntress married say 1799, Mary A Kelly, daughter of Ebenezer Kelly and Mary Hall.1,2 Gideon Walker Huntress died of softening of the brain at Boscawen, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, on 2 April 1870.3,7
Seth4 may have had an earlier wife also named Sarah, or the record of his marriage with Sarah Dame may be wrong in the year. The record of the death of Seth5 at Portsmouth 25 Mar. 1864 calls him son of Seth and Sarah, born at Portsmouth, 76 years of age, thus born about 1788. The record of the death of Martha5 at Portsmouth 1 Feb. 1865 calls her daughter of Seth, born at Newington, and Mary, born at Portsmouth, 78 years old, thus born about 1788.

The parentage of William Walker5 is not clearly proved. The death record is silent. His living descendants do not know the name of either of his parents. The only one of his descendants who has given me any information about his collateral relatives is his granddaughter Sarah E. Gould, who states that he had a sister Frances, whom she once saw, who died unmarried, and a cousin Gideon Walker Huntress. The death record of Leander S.6 Huntress son of William W.5 states that the father was born at Portsmouth. The name Walker common to William5 and his "cousin" point to descent from Jonathan3 who married Mary Walker. Of Jonathan's sons only two married and had issue, so far as I have been able to ascertain, and of these only Seth4 lived at Portsmouth, where he still was in 1803 when his son George5 was born. Seth4 had a son Gideon Walker5 who in turn had a son Gideon Walker6, born at Portsmouth in 1800, thus a close contemporary of William Walker5, and though not strictly his cousin, but his nephew, Gideon Walker6 in the loose terminology of the earlier time would have been described as "cousin". It may be noticed also that both Seth5 and William Walker6 had daughters Frances, a very rare name in the Huntress family. This points to the inference, in the absence of further evidence, that William Walker5 was son of Seth4.

The record of the death of George5 Huntress at Gloucester, Mass., 21 Dec. 1871, calls him son of Seth, born at Portsmouth, 68 years of age, thus born about 1803. [HWH]8
Gideon "Huntris" was listed as the head of a family on the 1810 Census at Barrington, Strafford County, New Hampshire. In his family were two males under 10 years of age (Gideon Walker and unk), one between 26 and 44 (Gideon), one female under 10 (unk), and one between 26 and 44 (Mary).9 Gideon Walker Huntress was a farmer at Barrington, Strafford County, New Hampshire, between 1818 and 1850. Gideon Huntress was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census at Strafford, Strafford County, New Hampshire. In his family were one male between 5 and 10 years of age (William Augustus), two between 10 and 15 (Dyer Place and John Gilman), one between 20 and 30 (Gideon Walker), one between 40 and 50 (Gideon Walker), one female less than 5 (Frances Susan), three between 5 and 10 (Hannah, 4, Sophia, and unk), two between 15 and 20 (Mary and Elizabeth), one between 20 and 30 (Ruth (Thurston) Huntress), and one between 40 and 50 (Mary).5 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census at Strafford, Strafford County, New Hampshire.

Gloria Lorraine Huntress
Gloria Lorraine Huntress was born at Brownfield, Oxford County, Maine, on 2 July 1941.1 She was the daughter of Raymon Durgin Huntress and Muriel A Johnson.1 Gloria Lorraine Huntress died of brain cancer at 49 Portland Street, Bridgton, Cumberland County, Maine, on 7 November 1998 at age 57.2 She was buried at Pinegrove Cemetery, Brownfield, Oxford County, Maine.3
She attended Brownfield schools and was a 1959 graduate of Fryeburg Academy. She had worked at Percy's Restaurant and Tom's Homestead Restaurant in Bridgton, and also for American Hardware and the Wyonegonic Inn. On July 2, 1983, her birthday, she opened the Morning Glory Diner in Bridgton, which she operated successfully until she sold it in 1996. It is still a successful business.

Bridgton says goodbye to the original
"Morning Glory"
Gloria Perreault, "Morning Glory", many know her by her friendly smile, warm heart and helping hand, lost her battle with brain cancer on November 7, 1998. She worked as a waitress for many years at "Percy's Restaurant" on Main Hill in Bridgton, Maine, she waited on many customers with her friendly smile and a hot cup of coffee. The regulars, as they were called, greeted here with, "Good Morning Glory!" and thus the name for her diner would be born. Later, Percy's became known as Tom's Restaurant and she continued with that same smile and continued to exchange morning greetings with her patrons. Her love for people and working with the public drove Gloria to realize her dream of owning her own diner and naming it Morning Glory; saving her tips and working hard, that dream became a reality on July 2, 1983. The doors opened at 6:00 AM on that day, her customers and friends drifted in throughout the day with well wishes and small talk while having a homemade muffin and cup of coffee among other homemade meals. That dream still stands, on Portland Street in Bridgton, now owned and operated in the same fashion as the original Morning Glory, by Scott and Brenda Sperrin. The next time you stop by the Diner, please remember to whisper a little "Good Morning Glory" in our Morning Glory's memory.

With all of our love, Emile, Tammy, Todd, Terri Perreault and their families.2
