John Huntress was born at Newington, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, in October 1797.3,4 He was the son of Samuel Huntress and Elizabeth Slade.3 John Huntress married, first, at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, on 4 July 1822, at age 24, Mary Hyde ceremony performed by Rev. Thomas Baldwin.5 John Huntress married, second, at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, on 4 November 1832, at age 35, Louise W. Powers, daughter of John Powers and Louise (--?--). (Louisa Blethen (CC. Nov. 10, 1832)).6,7 John Huntress died at 16 Lark St, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, on 23 December 1869 of Consumption at age 72.3,8
He resided at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.6
The account of this family leaves much to be desired. The only living descendant of John5 Huntress I have found is Sarah A.7 (Huntress) Crocker, who does not reply to my repeated inquires. [HWH]

The death record of John5 calls him son of Samuel and Betsey and states that he was born at Newington. [HWH]

The marriage of John Huntress and Louisa Blethen [sic] at Boston 4 Nov. 1832 is in the city record. I assume that this is the second marriage of John5. [HWH]

The death record of George B.6 calls him the son of John only. The death record of Charles W.6 calls him son of John born at Newington and Mary. The marriage records of Sarah6 and Mary6 call them daughters of John. The marriage record of Martha A.6 calls her daughter of John and Louisa. The marriage record of Frederick P.6 calls him son of John and Sophia, perhaps confusing the name of his wife Sophia with that of his mother. The fact that he was of Everett and that Louisa W. (Powers) Huntress died there points to a relationship between them and Frederick P. may mean Frederick Powers. [HWH]6
John Huntress was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census at 6th Ward, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. In his family were one male 15-20 years of age (George, 14), one 40-50 (John), two females under 5 (Mary L. and unk), two 5-10 (Sarah G. and unk), and one 40-50 (Louisa, 36).9 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census at 6th Ward, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
Huntress, 50, laborer, born in NH.10
John Huntress was a potter on 3 July 1860. He was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census at 6th Ward, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
