Corinne Margaret Peterson was born at New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, on 29 September 1914.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Carl E Peterson and Annie (--?--).4,5 Corinne Margaret Peterson married at her home at New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, on 14 April 1934, at age 19, Frank Granger Huntress III, age 22, son of Frank Granger Huntress Jr. and Katherine Keller Johnson.6,2,4,7 Corinne Margaret Peterson died on 10 December 2000 at age 86.1,2
She graduated from Sophie Newcomb College at New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.2 She was the wife of the late Frank G. Huntress Jr., the former president of the Express Publishing Co., which published the San Antonio Express-News, and owner of the Huntress Bottling Co. Huntress, remembered as a kind and thoughtful person, was active in civic work around San Antonio for many years. Before her death, she served numerous charitable organizations, including the Red Cross, the United Fund and the Community Welfare Council. She also was president of the Junior League from 1954 to 1955 and worked with the Battle of Flowers Association. Her favorite work, however, was on behalf of the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, where she was a trustee in the 1950s, said her son, Frank "Fritz" Huntress III. Betty Slick Moorman founded the Argyle, a private club in Alamo Heights, on behalf of the Southwest Foundation in 1955. At the time, Moorman asked a handful of women in San Antonio to help with the project. Huntress agreed, and for many years afterward she worked actively on behalf of the foundation. Since the founding of the Argyle, members, as well as the club itself, have donated some $23 million to biomedical research at the foundation. Mary Nell Kupfernagel, who helped Huntress in her later years, remembered her as a person who always thought of others. "She was a lovely lady, very considerate of others," Kupfernagel said. "She was very active, always involved in everything." She met her husband, a native of San Antonio, when she was a student at Sophie Newcomb College and he was finishing at Tulane University in New Orleans.2 She attended school at H. Sophie Newcomb College, Tulane University, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, before 3 March 1934.4 She resided at Seguin, Guadalupe County, Texas, circa 10 December 2000.1
