     Martin Smith was born at Lexington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on 8 May 1793.2 He was the son of Nathan Smith and Katherine Bacon.1 Martin Smith married at Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on 11 July 1819, at age 26, Grace Hurd Child, age 28, daughter of Simeon Child and Grace Winship.3,2,1 Martin Smith died at Rindge, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, on 22 August 1857 killed by an accidental fall from his wagon at age 64.4,2
     He resided at Fitzwilliam, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.4 Martin Smith was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census at Concord, Essex County, Vermont. In his family were one male between 5 and 10 (Nathan, 4), one between 30 and 40 (Martin), one female under 5 (Abby M.), one between 5 and 10 (Mary B.), and one between 30 and 40 (Grace Hurd).5 Martin Smith was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census at Dalton, Coos County, New Hampshire.
