     Capt. Waitstill Smith was born at Strafford, Orange County, Vermont, on 9 March 1780. He was the son of Lieut. Frederick Smith and Sarah Sloan. Capt. Waitstill Smith married say 1807, Lucy Hunt, daughter of Solomon Huntress and Lucy Burleigh.2,3,1 Capt. Waitstill Smith died on 25 March 1860 at age 80.
      He was an officer in the Revolution and a pensioner.

Their children were born at Strafford, CT (family Bible in possession, 1925, of Elizabeth P. widow of Arthur B.(7) Smith of Chelsea, VT). Waitstill was a farmer and military officer at Strafford, Orange County, Vermont. His will dated on 23 March 1860, proved 24 Apr 1860, mentions all his children except No. 2.4

     Diane H. Somerby was born at Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia, on 5 December 1932.3,2 She was the daughter of Lt. Col. William Alden Somerby Jr. and Virginia B. Cutright.1 Diane H. Somerby died after a long, courageous battle with cancer at Hospice Residence at Coes Pond, Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, on 12 January 2005 at age 72.1,3,4 She funeral was held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 17 Congress Street, Milford, Worcester County, Massachusetts, on 17 January 2005.3
      Mrs. Socci was raised in the military and traveled extensively in the United States and Europe. She earned a degree in animal science and equestrian studies in Budapest, Hungary. Most of her life was dedicated to her love of horses and pupils.

She was a veterinary technician and assisted treating and performing surgery to large and small animals. She organized pony clubs and 4-H programs. She taught riding for 25 years and was a licensed riding instructor in Massachusetts. Mrs. Socci initiated physical education courses for colleges and introduced Happy Horsemanship Programs. Her feline companion of the last 14 years was named "Cica."

Mrs. Socci was clubhouse manager of the Deerfield Country Club, Weston, W.Va., for 14 years before moving back to Massachusetts in 1997. She worked at the Mendon Gift Barn and most recently worked at Marshall's Jewelry of Milford.3 She resided at Hopedale, Worcester County, Massachusetts, circa 2005.2
