      "Like his father Jeremiah Stodder was a master shipwright. He eventually succeeded to his father's business and built vessels in the family shipyards on the Weir River, at Canterbury's Island, and on the bend of the river near what is now Rockland Street. He grew to be one of the wealthiest and most prominent men in Hingham."^3,4 He resided at Side Hill Road, Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.³ "It is recorded that in 1737 Jeremiah Stodder, Jr., was the owner of 2 small vessels, one of 16 and the other of 12 tons, engaged in the fisheries. From the earliest settlement, fishing was an important industry at Hingham and brought wealth to many of the families. Fishing, trading, and agriculture were the foundations of most of the early Massachusetts fortunes."⁵ His will at Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, dated 22 March 1790, mentions his wife Lydia, sons Isaiah, Enoch, Noah, Mathew, James, David, daughters Mary Stodder, Hulda Bate and husband Roger Bate, grandsons Esekiel & Jeremiah Stodder; Isaiah and Matthew Stodder joint executors.⁶
