Doris M. Chapman
Doris Muriel Walker was born at Porter, Oxford County, Maine, on 21 March 1913.1 She was the daughter of Charles Walker and Harriet Estella Huntress.1 Doris Muriel Walker married on 12 December 1931, at age 18, Arthur Elwin Chapman, age 21, son of Edward Chapman and Edith Lord.1 Doris Muriel Walker died at The Casco Inn, Casco, Cumberland County, Maine, on 30 January 2003 at age 89.2 She was buried at Parsonsfield Cemetery, Parsonsfield, York County, Maine.3
Mrs. Chapman was educated in Porter schools.
With her family, she worked many years at Dan Lord's Orchard. Mrs. Chapman attended Limerick Free Baptist Church.
Through the years, you might find Doris mowing her lawn, lugging water to the house or cooking on her wood stove. She was a strong willed women who loved the old ways. Doris loved company and talking about news events. The one thing she couldn't stand was a thief. She was known to say "if someone unwelcome tried to come through my door, I've got a stove poker for them" and she meant it.
Doris heated her home exclusively with wood for all but a few years and even then you would always find her wood stove burning. In her later years, during the summer months, you most likely would always find her sitting under one of the shade trees her husband planted. Other times you might find her swinging a sickle trying to keep the sumac from taking over her lawn. She was very proud of the home she and her husband, Elwin, made and did all she could do to keep it in shape.
Doris loved flowers. She would keep some growing even through the winter months on her window sill.3 She resided at Parsonsfield, Oxford County, Maine, on 27 December 1997.4
