George Huntress was baptized at Plympton St. Mary, co. Devon, England, on 6 October 1644.2,1 He married at Portsmouth, New Hampshire,, circa 1674, perhaps Mary Natt, daughter of John Natt.3 George Huntress died in the summer of 1715.3
George and Mary's eldest son and daughter are named after their father and mother, respectively; the second son, Samuel, received a name presumably for his paternal uncle; the third son, John, received a name presumably for his maternal grandfather. Of George and Mary's sons: George's first son and daughter, Christopher and Elizabeth, were named possibly for their paternal great uncle and aunt, Christian and Elizabeth, respectively; and John's second daughter, Tamsin, was named presumably for her paternal great grandmother.
George Huntress was also known as Hunt and often spelled his name as Huntris. He came to America as early as 1667, when he was a servant of John Locke of Hampton.4 George Huntress resided in that part of Dover known as Bloody Point, which in 1713 became Newington.5 George Huntress deposed probably 1670 that he was about 24 years of age. The paper is without a date and relates to a transaction in 1669. The following paper is dated 1670 and as the papers are arranged in nearly chronological order it is likely that the deposition is not of later date than 1670. He was then servant to Capt. Richard Cutt. The deposition contains the name of Mary Knot (?Knott).6,7 In a trial of Mr. Richard Cutt's Servants, 26 January 1669/70, George (Hunt) testified that he was 24 years of age. The maid, Mary Nott or Knat was said to have brought money from Old England.8 George Huntress was taxed Portsmouth October 1672.4 George Huntress is first mentioned in New Hampshire records when, 16 May 1676, he gave bail for his wife Mary.9,10 In 1678 he was included by Tythingman Jno. Dennett in his list of neighbors at Portsmouth, New Hampshire. "Jno. Dennett, for Wm. Earle, Jno. Cotten, Wm. Rackley, Sam. Clarke, Math. Nelson, Geo. Hunt, Jno. Place, Jno. Dennett, Rich. Jackson, Wm. Ham.".11 On 28 November 1679 George Huntress purchased lands from Lieut. Walter Neale at Greenland then a part of Portsmouth.13,14,15,16,12 1 September 1680 George Hunt, aged 35 years, deposed he was a living with John Locke of Hampton as his servant 13 years before.4 In 1681 he purchased the Kenniston homestead in Greenland and was a bondsman for Christopher K. the same year.17,10,4 In 1681 George Hunt was taxed at Portsmouth, which then included Greenland. He deposed 2 November 1685 that he was "about 38 years of age."18,10 In 1686 he purchased about 44 acres bounded East by the road from Greenland to Bloody Point.19,10 In 1686 he purchased 13 acres more adjoining the last.20,10 In 1688, 1692, and 1694 he served on a jury and a grand jury in 1697.21 George Huntress signed the petition of New Hampshire Settlers to the Governor of Massachusetts 20 February 1689.22 In 1690 he purchased a large tract on the Long Reach where he made his home.23,24 In 1695, 1699 and 1709 he purchased further tracts there.25,26,27,28 1696 George Huntress was highway surveyor for Bloody Point side and a soldier in King William's War.30,29 In 1696 he (Hunt) served on a coroner's jury at Newington, New Hampshire.4 He was Constable in 1698.4 13 December 1699 he purchased from James and John Leach land which was granted to their father by the town of Portsmouth.31,32 He deposed in November 1706 aged 63 that he and Clem. Meserve were living with Mr. Richard Cutt to look after his cattle.4 15 July 1713 George Huntress signed the petition "of the Inhabitants of Bloody Point within the limits of Dover" for a separate Parish of Newington.33 His will dated 28 June 1715, proved 19 Aug 1715, mentions his wife Mary, sons George, eldest, then dead, Samuel and John, daughter Abigail, and children of George, viz: Christopher, eldest son, George, youngest son, and daughters Elizabeth, Deborah and Sarah. He devised to his sons Samuel and John jointly 150 acres on the Long Reach of the Piscataqua where he was then living and to the sons of his son George, then dead, to George3 40 acres in Portsmouth constituting the southerly part of the testator's farm, subject to a life estate to his widow, and to Christopher3 all the rest of his real estate.34

rum 'against he came from Mr. Rayner's buriall,'
    and money.

said David Goodin gave him and Humphrey Yard.
Mary owned up to all the things found in her box,
and George's in the second box.
Daniel Daly acknowledged he had taken the things
in his box because he saw the others taking.
Florence owned that she spoke to Mr. Tasker's
carpenter to carry the two boxes to Barbadoes.
Mary said she had the whisk of William Cutt, and
gave Philip Fall 6 sh. for a gold ring.
Alice said Mary said she had her money from Old

Mary Nott deposed against Alice. Mary spoke
to Florence to speak to the carpenter to carry the
box for England. She took things which George
told her Harry carried down upon, a horse to

son and himself being at dinner at the creek
house, Alice White, late servant to my master
Capt. Richard. Cutt, came to us weeping. She
said that Jone Clement had been with her mis-
tress and told her of things in her box. The next
week himself and Florence Driscoll going to look
for missing cattle, asking at Goodman Ham's if
he had seen them, the aforesaid Jone Clements told
us that she being at Mr. Mattoones, Alice White

get so much and brought so little with her, for I
brought more and could carry away nothing; also
