PLACE FOR SUMMER RESORT, Our readers may be gratified to learn that our fellow-citizen, Capt. James L. Huntress, and Geo. Gilman, formerly of the Washington House of this city, and later of the Lowell Island House, have leased Coe's Hotel at Center Harbor, and have fitted it up in the best of style for the accommodation of summer tourists. The hotel is situated at the head of Lake Winnepisauke, and just at the foot of Red Hill, in one of the most beautiful localities in New England. Lowell people and others who wander that way this summer will be sure to call.21

After a good night's rest and an excellent breakfast, the party returned to the Weirs, and after a little patient waiting for the boat, which had been kept back by fog, we steamed over to Centre Harbor in time for dinner at the Senter House, kept in admirable style by our friend Capt., Huntress, formerly of our own city. At one, the party returned to the Weirs, and thence back to Concord again, and home. Before leaving the steamer, on the lake, the guest improvised a meeting and passed, with a will, some resolutions expressive of hearty thanks for the hospitable courtesies of our
New Hampshire friends.14
He resided at Centre Harbour, Belknap Co, New Hampshire, on 17 July 1869.14 Huntress of Senter House, is now a hunter busily engaged in searching for one of his gray mares, which he let a few days ago to an honest looking individual to drive to Tuftonboro, and who has not returned.23 Capt. James Lewis Huntress was a hotel keeper in 1883.24,1
Captain James Lewis Huntress, proprietor of the Sentor house, Centre Harbor, N. H., died at Hot Springs, Arkansas, Friday afternoon of last week, aged 64 years. Mr. Huntress was a native of Portsmouth, N. H., and for several years he was connected with the American house in this city, and has been landlord of the Bates house, Indianapolis, Ind., the Franklin house, Lawrence, the Lowell Island house, and in 1854 he took the house which he controlled at the time of his death. He was at one time captain of the Lowell City Guards. For the past few years he suffered with rheumatism, and had sought relief at the West. He leaves a widow, two sons—Mr. George L. Huntress of Boston and Mr. Henry Huntress of Centre Harbor, N. H.—and a daughter. The remains were brought to this city Thursday and placed in the tomb at the Lowell cemetery.13
In his early manhood, Mr. Huntress was one of the proprietors of the American house in this city, and later became well known as the owner of the Senter house in Centre Harbor, N. H., one of the best known hostelries in the White mountains at that time. Traveling was done by stage and every stage stopped at the Senter house. The older inhabitants of Lowell will remember Mr. Huntress very well. He was at one time the captain of the Mechanic Phalanx, now Co. C.25
On 15 May 1887 J. L. Huntress & Son advertised rooms to rent for their summer resort on Lake Winnipesaukee, Center Harbor, Belknap Co, New Hampshire.26
