Jeremiah Shaw, of Moultonboro, clergyman.8,2,3,4,9 Capt. Mark Huntress died of an accident at Sandwich, Carroll Co, New Hampshire, on 3 February 1861 at age 59.1

     Squire Leonard Huntress was born at Portsmouth, Rockingham Co, New Hampshire, on 22 November 1811.6,7,8,9,10,2,3 He was the son of Joseph Patteson Huntress and Sarah Chesley.5 Squire Leonard Huntress of Lowell, Mass. Married at Lowell, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts,, on 22 September 1833, at age 21, Lydia Ann McKinnon, age 21, of Portsmouth ceremony performed by R. H. Deming, clergyman.11,1,2,3,12 Squire Leonard Huntress died at Tewksbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, on 19 July 1885 at age 73.6,5
     During his youth Squire Leonard Huntress was an apprentice to a printer at Portsmouth, Rockingham Co, New Hampshire.5 Squire Leonard Huntress came to Lowell, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts in 1832 and obtained employment on the Lowell Mercury.5 He resided at Lowell, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, in 1833.1 Squire Leonard Huntress established the Lowell Courier in 1835 and continued as editor until 1842, when, on account of poor health, he retired to a farm in Tewksbury.5 Leonard Huntress was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census at Lowell, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts. In his family were one male under 5 years of age (Joseph Henry), three between 15 and 20 (unk), three between 20 and 30 (Leonard and unk), one female between 5 and 10 (Kate), one between 15 and 20 (unk), and one between 20 and 30 (Lydia Ann).13 Squire Leonard Huntress was publisher of the Lowell Courier at Lowell, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, on 15 May 1841.14,15 He resided at Tewksbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, in 1842.5 In 1846 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Lowell.5 In 1850 he was elected as a County Commissioner of Middlesex Co, serving as Chairman of the Board most of the time during the next 26 years. In this responsible office he was an authority upon county practice, and served to the very general satisfaction of the people of the county. A courteous, commanding, genial, and hospitable Christian gentleman. He left a record of clean, lengthy, and most efficient public service.5 Squire Leonard Huntress was a Commissioner of Highways for Middlesex Co, Massachusetts between 1850 and 1876 (picture from page 94).16,6 He resided at Tewksbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, between 1860 and 1880 on his own farm, claiming $11,000 of real estate and $1200 personal property, an Irish domestic and two hired laborers.17,18,19 Squire Leonard Huntress was a farmer between 1860 and 1880.17,19,18 Squire Leonard Huntress was first selectman at Tewksbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, on 6 May 1861.20 Squire Leonard Huntress was chairman at Tewksbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, in March 1865.20 He resided at Tewksbury, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, in 1870.19 Squire Leonard Huntress, assisted by J. C. Kittredge, provided a historical article on the history of Tewksbury for The History of Essex County by Samuel Adams Drake published Boston 1880.21
