As with written notes, staff members will make judgments as to whether or not an e-mail requires a response. Additionally, even if they are able to respond, they may not always have time to provide a detailed response.

Finally, e-mail should not be considered a replacement for traditional methods of communication such as telephone calls, written notes and personal meetings. In fact, some teachers have indicated that they would prefer that notes and phone calls continue as the primary means of communication. In general, it is best to communicate with individual teachers to determine the extent to which communication via-e-mail would be effective.
