The following schedule of events for the 2001-2002 season was discussed at the 2001 Spring General meeting.   Items with the  tag indicate some or all classes are ISDRA sanctioned.  Items with the  tag indicate weight pulls that are IWPA sanctioned.  Unless otherwise noted, all non sanctioned races and weight pulls will use ISDRA rules.  A complete race packet will be available in late fall from Karen Jacobs, 141 W. 2001 PSDC Summer Camp Out
The 30th Annual Summer Camp-Out will be Aug 10-12 at the Deer Run Appalachian Campground. The campground is near the town of Mt. Holly Springs, PA, which is south of Carlisle, PA.  The featured speaker will be Dr. Dawn Simmerman on the unique health issues facing sprint racing teams  teams.  Carol Riegel will give a demonstration on canine massage to round out the health theme of this campout.  Also, Roy Smith and Johnn Molburg will give a Skijoring 101 demo.  Drag Races and a  Junior Musher Workshop will also be held.  Organizer is Carolyn Brandt, rcpms@aol.comClick here for schedule, more details and registration form.

Deer Run Weight Pull
This is the third year PSDC has sponsored a two-day weight pull at Deer Run Appalachian Campground. This is an IWPA Sanctioned pull. The campground is near the town of Mt. Holly Springs, PA, which is south of Carlisle, PA.   Weigh-in's begin at 8 am both days.  Start time is 10 am both days.  Event organizer is Carolyn Brandt, rcpms@aol.com

2001 PSDC Fall Meeting & Training Session
The Fall Meeting & Training Session will be held October 19-21 at a new location this year:  The Jonestown KOA in  Jonestown, PA.   Don Ulrich is the organizer, ulrd@att.net   This year's Fall Campout will feature:  Training, Sleddog Obstacle Course Competition, Dinner Speaker on Medical Emergencies, Racing Preparations, Sleddog Halloween Costume Contest, and a Chinese Raffle/Auction. 

Directions
From the North:
I-81 to Exit 30 (Lebanon).  Left off ramp, then proceed south on Route 72 to Route 22.  Go East on Route 22 for 2 miles.  Turn right at KOA sign.

From the South:
Route 72 North to Route 22.  Go East on Route 22 for 2 miles.  Turn right at KOA sign. 

From the West:
I-78 to Exit 20.  Proceed North on Route 72 for 14 miles to Route 22.  Go East on Route 22 for 2 miles.  Turn right at KOA sign.

The 14th Annual Tow Hill Training Session
This training weekend will be held one week after Halloween as usual, Nov 2-5 .  Rain/Snow/Excessive Heat dates are Nov 9-12.  We do not cancel for intermittent rain, only floods.  Reservations will be taken starting September 1, 2001.  The number of people will be limited this year.  Preference will be given to those who have attended in the past.  If there is available space two weeks prior to the event, we will take reservations from newcomers.  Click here for more information.


Carpenter Park Challenge Fun Race
Weight Pull Cancelled.
This event will be a one-day fun race on Sunday, December 2.   No alternate date.  The event will be held at the Walter Carpenter,  Jr. entrance of White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Delaware.  The classes offered will  be:  4, 3, 1-2 Bike Class, 1-2 Junior and Pee Wee.  Entry Fee is $10 for all classes.  No charge for pee wee.  There will be purebred ribbons for each class.   The trail is a LOOP TRAIL with no head-on passing on park roads and grassy trails.  It is approximately 2.5 miles for all classes.  Race organizers are Sue Thompson, 101 Unami Trail, Newark, DE 19711 or e-mail thompssm@dadebehring.com and Carol Riegel, 15 Walker Street, Chadds Ford, PA 19317 or e-mail bvsdt@home.com

From the Northeast:
Take  I-95 South of Wilmington, Delaware.  Take Route 273 West to Newark.  You will go through downtown Newark.  Once you're on Main Street, look for signs for 896 North.  Make a right onto 896 North.  You'll go through town and into a residential / suburban area.  Approximately 1 mile north of Newark, you'll see a large sign on the right hand side for Walter S. Carpenter, Jr. State Park.   Make a right into the entrance.  Parking attendents will direct you.

From Lancaster or Northwest:
Take Route 30 East through Lancaster.  Pick up 896 South.  Proceed to the Delaware state line.  Once you cross the state line, be on the look out for signs for Walter S. Carpenter Jr. State Park.  You are very close when you come to Hopkins Road.  Take the first left after Hopkins Road into the main entrance for the state park.  Parking attendents will direct you.

From the South:
Take I-95 North.  Just before the Delaware state line, exit onto Route 279 North.  Take Route 279 to downtown Newark, Delaware.  Make a right onto Route 896 North.  You'll go through town and into a residential / suburban area.   Approximately 1 mile north of Newark, you'll see a large sign on the right hand side for Walter S. High Point Race

This race has been previously held by the NJSDC and will be held jointly between the PSDC and NJSDC this year on January 12 & 13.  Alternate dates will be February 2 & 3.   The race is held at High Point State Park near Sussex, NJ.  The race will be ISDRA sanctioned. ISDRA   The classes for this race will be 4, 6, 8, Ski Joring, 4 & 6 dog Sportsman, 3 dog Junior, and Pee Wee.    Drivers' meeting is at 8:30 am.  Race Organizer  - Kathy Murarik, murarik@optonline.net - 973-663-2164.  Registrar - LuWanna Krause,

Race site is located four miles from Port Jervis, NJ.

From Route 84, Take Exit 1.  At the bottom of the ramp, turn left and follow Route 23 South.  You will go up a steep mountain.  Look for entrance to High Point State Park on right side of highway.   Follow signs to parking area. 

From South Jersey:
Take NJ Turnpike to Exit 10 (Route 287 Exit).  Take Route 287 North to Route 80 West to Exit 34B (Route 15 North, Jefferson, Sparta).   Continue on Route 15 North through Lafayette.  At Route 565, turn right.   (Ideal Farms on right.)  You will come to a light where Route 565 bears to the right.  DO NOT GO RIGHT.  You continue straight,
the road changes to Route 639, go through the light and will pass Sussex Airport on your right.  At the next light, go left onto Route 23 North.   Go about 9 miles, past the High Point State Park Office on the left and the Cross Country Ski Center on the right.  Continue traveling down the mountain and look for entrance to Park on left.  Follow signs to race site.

Tug Hill Challenge & Weight Pull

IWPA Sanctioned Weight Pull.  Two one-day pulls.  1st Dog $15; each additional dog $10.  Fees apply each day.  Novice pull on Saturday only.  
Saturday weigh-in at 9am, start time 11 am.
Sunday weigh-in at 8 am, start time 9:30 am.
Registration the day of the pull with Regina Caldwell.  No pre-entries.
Note:  Non PSDC members can join the day of the pull for a $12 PSDC membership fee.  Non IWPA members can either join the day of the pull for IWPA membership or pay a $5.00 /handler membership fee.

Endless Mountain Race
The Endless Mountain Race has been cancelled for this year due to problems with running dog teams in the State Game Lands.

Directions
The Endless Mountains race will be held at Camp Brule in Forksville, northeast of Williamsport, PA, which is about 35 miles north of
Montoursville, PA.  The race is off Route 154; signs to the race site will be posted from the intersection of Routes 87 and 154.  


Pack Forest Race & Weight Pull

Take I-87 to exit 23.  Go left off the exit if coming from Albany.  Go right off the exit if coming from Canada.  Go north on Route 9 through village of Warrensburg.  Go past the intersection of Route 9 and Route 28.  The entrance to Pack Forest is on the left.


Camelback Weight Pull
