The following schedule of events for the 2002-2003 season was discussed at the 2002 Spring General meeting.   Items with the  tag indicate some or all classes are ISDRA sanctioned.  Items with the  tag indicate weight pulls that are IWPA sanctioned.  Unless otherwise noted, all non sanctioned races and weight pulls will use ISDRA rules.  A complete race packet will be available in late fall from Nancy Molburg, arctics@aol.com   Entry blanks and Competitor Information sheets can be found on the Club Forms page.

2002 PSDC Summer Camp Out
The 31st Annual Summer Camp-Out will be Aug 9-11 at the Deer Run Appalachian Campground. The campground is near the town of Mt. Holly Springs, PA, which is south of Carlisle, PA.  The featured speaker will be distance musher and sleddog trainer, Jamie Nelson, of Togo, MN.  Chuck Weiss will also give a presentation and slide show about his experiences as a sleddog tour operator.  John Gilkey of PA Urban Search & Rescue will give a demo with their dogs that are specially trained to find people in disaster areas.   Drag Races and a  Junior Musher Workshop will also be held.  Organizer is Carolyn Brandt, rcpms@aol.com Click here for schedule, more details and registration form.

From the PA Turnpike:
Take exit 226 off the turnpike.  Pick up I-81 and go south to Exit 47 at Carlisle.   Take Route 34 South and follow about 4 miles through Mt. Holly Springs.  Pick up Route 94 South and follow 2 miles.  Turn left onto Sheet Iron Roof Road.  The campground is at the end of the road.

From I-81:

From the Northeast:
Take  I-95 South of Wilmington, Delaware.  Take Route 273 West to Newark.  You will go through downtown Newark.  Once you're on Main Street, look for signs for 896 North.  Make a right onto 896 North.  You'll go through town and into a residential / suburban area.  Approximately 1 mile north of Newark, you'll see a large sign on the right hand side for Walter S. Carpenter, Jr. State Park.   Make a right into the entrance.  Parking attendents will direct you.

From Lancaster or Northwest:
Take Route 30 East through Lancaster.  Pick up 896 South.  Proceed to the Delaware state line.  Once you cross the state line, be on the look out for signs for Walter S. Carpenter Jr. State Park.  You are very close when you come to Hopkins Road.  Take the first left after Hopkins Road into the main entrance for the state park.  Parking attendents will direct you.

From the South:
Take I-95 North.  Just before the Delaware state line, exit onto Route 279 North.  Take Route 279 to downtown Newark, Delaware.  Make a right onto Route 896 North.  You'll go through town and into a residential / suburban area.   Approximately 1 mile north of Newark, you'll see a large sign on the right hand side for Walter S. Carpenter, Jr. State Park.  Make a right into the entrance.   Parking attendents will direct you.

High Point Race
This race has been previously held by the NJSDC and will be held jointly between the PSDC and NJSDC this year on January 11 & 12.  Alternate date will be February 1 & 2.   The race is held at High Point State Park near Sussex, NJ.  The race will be ISDRA sanctioned. ISDRA   The classes for this race will be 4, 6, 8, Ski Joring, 4 & 6 dog Sportsman, 3 dog Junior, and Pee Wee.    Drivers' meeting is at 8:30 am.  Race Organizer  - Kathy Murarik, murarik@optonline.net - 973-663-2164.  This information can also be found at www.njsdc.com

Directions

Race site is located four miles from Port Jervis, NJ.

From Route 84, Take Exit 1.  At the bottom of the ramp, turn left and follow Route 23 South.  You will go up a steep mountain.  Look for entrance to High Point State Park on right side of highway.   Follow signs to parking area. 

From South Jersey:
Take NJ Turnpike to Exit 10 (Route 287 Exit).  Take Route 287 North to Route 80 West to Exit 34B (Route 15 North, Jefferson, Sparta).   Continue on Route 15 North through Lafayette.  At Route 565, turn right.   (Ideal Farms on right.)  You will come to a light where Route 565 bears to the right.  DO NOT GO RIGHT.  You continue straight, the road changes to Route 639, go through the light and will pass Sussex Airport on your right.  At the next light, go left onto Route 23 North.   Go about 9 miles, past the High Point State Park Office on the left and the Cross Country Ski Center on the right.  Continue traveling down the mountain and look for entrance to Park on left.  Follow signs to race site.

Tug Hill Challenge & Weight Pull
This race and weight pull will be held on January 25 & 26 at Winona State Forest, Lorraine, NY.  The classes for this race will be 4, 6, 8, Pro Ski Joring, 4 & 6 dog Sportsman, Sportsman Skijoring, 2 dog Junior, and Pee Wee.  The IWPA Sanctioned Weight Pull will be a two day pull.  Purse yet to be determined.  Race Organizers- JoLynn Stressing, portraitsbyjolyn@aol.com, & Gerald Chamberlain ggc09@yahoo.com.  Race registrar - LuWanna Krause, LuWannaK@aol.com  Weight Pull Organizer -  Regina Caldwell, abenakimals@aol.com

Trail Description
Park Roads, wooded trails, and rolling hills in beautiful, snowy Winona State Forest.   Mostly looped trails for a minimum of head on passing.

Weight Pull Info

IWPA Sanctioned Weight Pull.  Two one-day pulls.  1st Dog $15; each additional dog $10.  Fees apply each day.  Novice pull on Saturday only.  
Saturday weigh-in at 9am, start time 11 am.
Sunday weigh-in at 8 am, start time 9:30 am.
Registration the day of the pull with Regina Caldwell.  No pre-entries.
Note:  Non PSDC members can join the day of the pull for a $12 PSDC membership fee.  Non IWPA members can either join the day of the pull for IWPA membership or pay a $5.00 /handler membership fee.

Directions
The Winona State Forest is approximately 1 hour north of Syracuse, NY.  From I-81, Take Exit 39, Mannsville.  Go East at the Stop Sign.  Go straight through intersection at U.S. 11 on to County Route 90.  Follow County Route 90 signs.  Take the next right, next left, next right.  Race signs will be up Friday before the race at the intersections.


Pack Forest Race & Weight Pull
This race will be held February 8 & 9 with no alternate date at the Pack Forest in Warrensburg, NY. Take I-87 to exit 23.  Go left off the exit if coming from Albany.  Go right off the exit if coming from Canada.  Go north on Route 9 through village of Warrensburg.  Go past the intersection of Route 9 and Route 28.  The entrance to Pack Forest is on the left.


Tug Hill Challenge II
This race will be held on Sunday, March 2 at Winona State Forest, Lorraine, NY.  This is a one day ISDRA sanctioned race.  The classes for this race will be 4, 6, Ski Joring, 4 & 6 dog Sportsman, and Junior.ISDRA    Race Organizers- JoLynn Stressing, portraitsbyjolyn@aol.com, & Gerald Chamberlain, ggc09@yahoo.com.  

On Saturday, March 1, there will be an open training day with a barbecue lunch at 1 pm.  You must preorder the barbecue.  See below for more details.

PSDC Spring Meeting
The PSDC Spring meeting & banquet will be held on Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Genetti's Best Western in Hazleton, PA.  This is in the Poconos.  Guest speakers will be Martin Buser, 4 time Iditarod Winner, and Dr. Al Townsend, Iditarod Vet.  Also on the schedule are  PSDC General Membership Meeting, Silent Auction, and the Saturday Evening Awards Banquet.  More details and reservation forms will be in the March PSDC newsletter and posted on this site as soon as info is received.
