A "reading room", mostly of letter and newspaper clippings by or about people of the SEE surname might be of interest and amusement even to people who aren't relatives or genealogy buffs. Finally, there is a list of links to related genealogy sites.
Our own ancestral See line goes back to Wilton NY (near Saratoga Springs) and Schodack (near Troy and Albany) before then. A link seems very likely going back to the immigrant Isaac SY whose descendants thrived in Tarrytown as well as New York City and suburbs, but documentation is thin. There were five sons in the impoverished family of Garret See (1811-1814) and his wife Sarah Ann Dutcher. The sons came of age just in time to be recruited for the Union army in the Civil War. All five sons served in the war, and two died in it. The others scattered to different places in the midwest. Their father Garret had died of "intemperance" long before the war, and their mother died shortly after the war ended.
On February 28, 1874, George W. See of Wilton was murdered with a flatiron by his landlord James Standish in the presence of George's wife Lovinia. The murder and ensuing trial were covered heavily by the area newspapers, with his wife Lovinia as the star witness for the prosecution. She stated under oath that she was George's cousin, and born ca. 1845, but nothing else is known about her, or their child, nor what became of her after the trial.
