Now Playing on Lathe of Heaven
Playlist viewable with IE only

Who are you?

Me? Just a a crazy paleogothic Warrior/Witch/Harlot from Seattle. Born in 1970 in the sign of Virgo. Lived in LA in the late 90s, now I have a drab day-job here in the Bog of Eternal Stench. I collect those paranormal Time-Life Books , like "Enchanted Worlds" and "Mysteries of the Unknown", volunteer at the Woodland Park Zoo (because I like animals, NOT children.), and I spend entirely too much time online.

Why is your station called "Lathe of Heaven"?

When I was a kid, I saw the PBS movie of the Ursula K. Le Guin book, "Lathe of Heaven". Being an rather precocious child, I was fascinated by the concept that the world is what we dream it to be. We are what shapes the heavens, not the other way around. I also have a keen interest in dream interpretation and analysis. Since my station is predominately music with a strong, dramatic, and cosmic feel I thought the name conveyed this dreamlike state.

What kind of music do you play?

If you want genres, you could say that I play Apocalyptic Folk, Ambient Pop, Sadcore, Progressive Folk, New Age, Neo-Classical, Ambient Goth, Shoegazer, Darkwave, Experimental, Dream Pop, and World Music. I love music with a dark, dramatic, mystical edge. I looked for a "pagan" themed radio station but only found withered New Age gong music and Gregorian chants. I present this as an alternative for us not so cuddly types.

Yeah, but what bands?

Nick Drake, Kate Bush, Kronos Quartet, Danielle Dax, Bjork, Velvet Underground, Dead Can Dance, Cat Stevens, Sigur Ros, Brian Eno, Lou Reed, Clint Mansell, Philip Glass, The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud, Peter Gabriel, Diamanda Galas, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Current 93, Arvo Part, Claudine Longet, Godspeed You Black Emperor, A Silver Mount Zion, Deutsch Nepal, Rozz Williams, Sparklehorse, His Name Is Alive, Shriekback, This Mortal Coil, Roxy Music, Chopin, Debussy, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Milla Jovovich, Yo La Tengo, Serge Gainsbourg, Angelo Badalamenti, Nico, Cindytalk, Hans Zimmer, Clannad, Low, Dot Allison, Philip Glass, Single Gun Theory, David Bowie, Charlotte Church, Laibach, XTC, Neil Young, Clinic, PJ Harvey, Silver Apples, Van Morrison, Hector Zazou, Virginia Astley, Varttina, Exp, Cocteau Twins, and much much more....

If you would like to recommend any other songs or artists post them in the new FORUM. Just the names, not the files!

What other music do you like.

Well, oddly enough I love Funk music. Good old fashioned 70s Funk. If you think about it, funk is sort of like music for sex magik. It's based on the style of gospel but the lyrics are all about gettin' down. I also love 70s Glam, Punk, New Wave, and Classic Rock. Dream Pop is really my favorite. I also collect musical atrocities and novelty songs. But that's another story....

If you share my interest in Old School Funk and live in Seattle, you should check out The Cobalt Cafe (1530 Bellevue Ave between Pike and Pine) Saturday nights for Bootycall! I helped program the playlist.

Seen any good shows?

Well, I have seen Interpol (so cool), Sigur Ros (twice, magnificent), Radiohead (wow, just wow), The Album Leaf (not great live, but their music is lovely), Laibach (very disappointing), Echo and the Bunnymen (back in 84), Frankie Goes to Hollywood (I was 14), and The Eurythmics (at Bumbershoot). I have also seen Rozz Williams, EXP, Eva O, and Gitane Demone more times than I can count (nepotism), as well as Penis Fly Trap, Impact Test, Premature Ejaculation, and Nick Turner. Most recently I saw Goldfrapp at Chop Suey. They were AMAZING. See them.

Are you some kind of Wiccan?

I am an Eclectic Polytheist and practicing witch, the details of which are none of your concern ;)

I am also trying to get back into school to finish my degree in Religious Anthropology, with emphasis on European pre-Christian culture (Evergreen State College). I am not a wiccan. You can join my new Live Journal Community Scarlet Harlots if you have an interest in alternative paganism.

Wait! I have more questions!
