successfully in the United States since the 1950's and is experiencing a
resurgence as complementary therapies gain recognition. Hypnosis was used
instead of anesthesia to help women give birth.

an excellent introduction to the use of hypnosis for labor. |

Hypnosis and Imagery are great
examples of the mind-body
link. The body and mind work together with many systems of the body. Your
mind is connected to the endocrine (hormone), immune, and autonomic nervous
system, which governs all of our activities. The autonomic nervous system is
sub-divided into the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. |
 The sympathetic
system puts us in a state of readiness or alertness to meet any challenges
during which adrenaline, thyroxin and norepinephrine are released resulting
in increased heart beat and breathing rate, our digestion increases acid
secretion in our stomach and we have anxious feelings. This is the state of
stress can be helpful, if we have to perform on stage or indulge in sport
activity but remaining in stressful state always results in problems. |
| A parasympathetic system is just the opposite. It lowers our pulse rates
and breathing resulting in comfort, relaxation and ultimately sleep. Nerve
endings release endorphins and neuropeptides that makes us feel pleasant. |
The autonomic nervous system, endocrine and
immune system are intertwined and exchange information's through
neurotransmitters made of proteins. The immune system listens to our
emotions through its own neuropeptide receptors and transmits the same to
the brain via the neurotransmitters, which reacts to immune responses. |
| Everything starts with the thought process
that creates emotions, and hypnosis and imagery are ways to change your
thought process and improve your body processes, to help you decrease
anxiety in your pregnancy, for your birth, and prepares you to welcome your
new baby. |
